The Greatest Movie Franchises of All Time - Final Four

Links to preceding threads:

You can view the entire tournament bracket here as we go along, but here's the current state:

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

MCU
LOTR

Star Wars vs LOTR was a tough one. All of the LOTR movies are very good (including the Hobbit trilogy), but Episodes 1-3 really weigh down the Star Wars franchise.

This would be LOTR hands-down based on the Academy Awards.

If they hadn't had gone and made the Hobbit trash.

Quad Cities Bond - with action-packed jet ski chase on Lake Okoboji.

Bond, you're going to Okoboji - here's your Greyhound ticket. This bass lure is actually a self-propelled underwater camera - it may come in handy. Godspeed and try not to kill anyone this time. Also stay away from the funnel cakes - we can't have you getting fat again.

Maybe because it combines good plot lines, likable characters, stunning special effects and over the course of more than 20 films has very few dogs? Sure, I think Godfather 1 is a better movie than any MCU movie. Maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark. Probably Empire. But after that the MCU just trounces.

It's like the Wilt Chamberlain versus Bill Russell AND THE ENTIRE REST OF THE CELTICS lineup I mentioned. Wilt and 4 cheerleaders couldn't beat them, and neither can these other franchises. None of them tend to enough top line talent.

Hell, Bond is the worst of the lost. I really enjoy the Bond movies, but there isn't a single one that I'd put on any kind of top 25 list of movies ever. It's got volume, and is consistently entertaining, but other than longevity it hasn't got a ton of appeal.

As compared to the deeply subtle and incredibly intelligent plots of BOND MOVIES?

And if it was all explosions and loud noises, then it'd be Transformers versus the field instead of the MCU versus the field.

Sorry I forgot 30 minute final battle scenes with disposable CGI armies and a giant beam that's going to destroy the world/universe. And someone dies - as telegraphed by the script ahead of time. I actually like a lot of the Marvel movies until the final battle scene - which I just yawn through.

I blame Braveheart - one of my favorite movies of all time. Ever since then every action movie has to have an EPIC final battle. It's played out and boring imo.

Yeah, when I was a kid it was fun to see car chases and gun battles and fights, but at some point I realized that once you've seen one, you've seen them all. I have no interest in watching movies where car chases or gun battles or fights are the main part of the plot, and unfortunately that knocks out 80 percent of modern movies. When I then kick out movies that are focused on people arguing or dying, that pretty much just leaves comedies, occasional scifi moves with unique plots, and some indie movies that I can go see.

Yeah I wish most movies didn't suck now.

I tried to watch Geostorm last night - thinking it would be mindless fun. It was so mindless I couldn't make it.

That's also why it bugged me so much that Alien - imo the most perfect movie ever made - had to go up against Die Hard in round one. Still mad.
