Please read the rest of my post. I’ve worked in film, man. You have to understand that these studios are still run by an old guard. Netflix has done fine, sure. But Netflix is also in the business of purchasing film rights from studios and white labeling them as their own content. For a brand like Disney, streaming services ARE NOT the delivery platform. They are a means to recurring revenue from their intellectual property.

Why would Disney ever consider abandoning the box office when they can continue to charge a premium for theaters to show their films, while said theaters make countless money from concession sales per head? The amount of money made in the box office, per person, annually, absolutely dwarfs the streaming platforms.

And guess what? Once the film is out of the theater, said studio gets to charge you a subscription fee to watch it again. The streaming services are a value add, not the be-all, end-all. Further proof of this is that Netflix has released some of its largest productions in the theater as well.

Just because you don’t personally go to the movies does not mean theaters are struggling. Some have struggled, yes. But the ones who are doing it right are killing it. Visit a B&B any night of the week. The parking lot is packed. And don’t forget the small town - the lifeblood of the film industry.

Btw, AMC just went up another 20% overnight based on some of their national locations looking into reopening with new SD guidelines. And they’ll fill up.

I think you need to reread my post. I never said that movie theaters would cease to exist, I said that in the next decade, the 16+ cineplexes will begin to go away.

What you seem to be missing is that Post-Covid 19 world is unknown. People are losing jobs and the world will change because of it. The studios will adapt and have already begun doing so.

Trolls 2 has earned more domestic revenue from releasing PVOD than it would had it been released in theaters and had the distributors take its cut.

Disney+ aired Onwards mere weeks after it's theatrical run. The Rise Of Skywalker hits Disney+ just months after earning more than $1 Billion at the box office and other movies that were slated for release are instead going to Disney+ instead.

The world is rapidly changing and film distribution is changing, too. Faster than some either know or are willing to admit.

And FWIW, there is a metric ****TON of assumptions being made in this post. First off, I'm a AMC Premiere Member and take my family to as many as a dozen films per year.

I'm not going to go line by line to discredit everything you wrote because quite frankly, I don't care and don't really want to spend my time doing so.

And finally, I worked for Universal in Universal City, which is 10 minutes from my home, for more than 6 years and am still in contact with all of the VP's (we came up together), I was at Paramount for nearly a decade and have friends all over town. My neighbors are Oscar winners and one of them owns a movie company worth more than $500 million dollars.

I'm pretty sure that I know that of which I speak.

Predictions:
  • much more work at home for desk jockeys. No idea why this hasn't been implemented before COVID for road congestion and vehicle emissions. The "paperless office" we heard about in the 90's may become a reality.
  • If being able to walk around with a mask, sunglasses, and a baseball cap becomes the norm someone is going to take advantage of it in a nefarious way. Either the good guys or the bad guys.
  • Online learning is going to become interactive and much more refined.

In more news, Universal Studios announced today that it will begin releasing films via movie theaters and Premium Video On Demand simulatenously, which further proves the move away from movie theaters.

As a response, AMC says they're banning Universal movies from their theaters. Considering the next Fast & Furious film is expected to hit the $1 billion dollar mark, AMC is making a really dumb decision, IMO.

Take the money and run. While you can.

I've learned that ordering 2 or 3 half baked pizza's from my favorite joints that are 40 miles away can be wrapped in saran wrap and kept for 2-3 weeks in the freezer. Putting them on the Pizzazz to finish lets me cook them to perfection.

That's...….not smart. AMC is really working hard to get at the Chapter 11 protection, it would seem.

One would think that AMC would like to earn as much money as possible before their business begins to fades away but apparently, they're not interested.

HBO MAX launches next month and Warners is already creating Exclusive content for their "new" streamer, which has big budget features in production that will stream exclusively and will not be available in theaters, which will take yet another chunk of income out of AMC's revenue stream.

The Academy also announced today that streaming films will be eligible for the 2021 Oscars, which is yet another sign the distribution model is rapidly changing.

MLB and my city are having discussions on possibly playing multiple games a day in this area. Just discussions of possibilities at this point.

The Phillies, Bluejays, Orioles and Yankee minor league stadiums are less than an hour from the Tropicana dome in St. Pete. Detroit is about 1.5 hours.

The idea is for the teams to stay in one hotel and not travel except to go to games and back. They rotate where the teams play. They rotate the times. In the 4 outside ball parks they will play an 11:00 am and a 8:00 pm game. Thats 8-10 games a day. The teams that played in the heat of the day would play the next day or ASAP in the air conditioned dome in St. Pete. They would play 3 games a day in the dome.

The main goal:
No travel and play 11-13 games a day.
