Why is what Philly did worse than Pittsburgh?

The initial reaction to Philly pulling Hurts seems like it has been cries of how much of a "disgrace" it was. For example:

But how is that any worse than other teams resting their starters? Our game didn't matter, but Pittsburgh rested a few guys which almost certainly helped Cleveland get into the playoffs and forced the Dolphins to sit at home.

Just curious if there's some reason I'm missing that the former situation is so egregious while the latter is just normal.

1. He said earlier in the week that he was going to do so, and
2. Hurts looked like dog shit.

He didn't "tank" so much as he used the game to prepare the team for the future: evaluate what they have at QB so they can make good decisions in the offseason.

No one criticizes Pitt, that is not allowed.

They basically did the same thing.

Its not remotely close to the same thing.

Motive means everything. Pitts players understood why Ben and others didnt play.

If you think they actually did this to decide wether Sudfield will be there next year then well, go on believing that I guess.

There is only 1 QB on that team who's future is in question and he didnt play.

I don’t find it that crazy to think, especially since last year Sudfield was supposed to be the backup behind Went and got hurt, which is why they signed McCown.

Still can't believe Jason Kelce did that, just ****ing inexcusable no matter how he felt about Sudfeld being subbed in... Philly fans and teammates should lose all respect for him after that

Sudfeld was there to be a backup. Hurts was drafted to compete with Wentz. Big difference. Pederson may have had reasons to play sudfeld. He's blowing smoke if he's claiming he did that to win the game. Maybe the decision to play sudfeld was pre-decided but even that predecision was bizarre. What did he expect to learn from a 27 year old in one quarter?

There's something way more to this. Either pederson didn't communicate well or pederson had lost the locker room already. I don't know if I've ever seen a reaction like this, including from really well respected veterans.

So the players knew that Sudfeld was going to get playing time AND Kelce claims that the team knew it as well.

He also claims there was no confrontation on the sidelines.

That certainly ruins some of the false narratives posted in this thread.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders wasn’t too pleased.

"Man if I'm being honest, nobody liked the decision. Nobody," Sanders said Tuesday on 94WIP Sports Radio. "That's all I can say really. I don't know who was the main person behind that decision. All I know is that a lot of people on the team was confused."

It's not even just #1. Because pederson gambled on the 4th and 4. It's hard to figure out what was going through pedersons head. But in any event, he's going to have to do a lot of work to win back his locker room after what he did.
I pretty much see it as Pederson was looking at the fact that Hurts was sucking ass and just said **** it, it can't get any worse, so I'll fulfill my promise to Nate that he'll get some PT.

And when you look at Hurts, its not like he's shown some absurd amount of "promise" anyhow. He hasn't posted a game over 57% passing in which he threw more than one pass.

Getting a look at Sudfeld's in-game action wasn't that bad of an idea in my mind. At least give yourself some verification the kid is actually worse than Hurts. The guy hadn't thrown a pass in a game since 2018 (he threw a whopping 2 passes that year) and his actual last game action was as a rookie where he completed 82% of his passes in a Week 17 loss to the Cowboys.

So, I can absolutely justify Pederson taking a final look. They are set to lose Suds to free agency this offseason, so why make the decision to bring him back or send him on his way without knowing what he is at this point in an actual game? I think he made that answer clear to all.

Sudfeld is 27. He's played tons of preseason snaps. I'm not a hurts fan at all. But I mean, let's be real. Giving sudfeld reps is like banking on Henne to be your starter. He's a future backup. The decision to play sudfeld at all is bizarre given their QB situation and using the excuse that hurts played badly or that sudfeld gave a better chance to win is weak. You may not call it tanking, but it was clearly a decision that indicated they weren't that interested in trying to win. Why do you need to see snaps from a career backup when the guy who might very well start for you next year could clearly use the reps. It's bizarre.
