Red on Red Jerseys; a brief history

Are we ready to retire this tradition? Dug up some articles in the wayback, and it all started in the home-opener in 2013. The team wanted to turn a page after 2012 and started the Reid era at home with those jerseys and with a win. The second game with those jerseys was also a huge win (the 41-14 win over a fading Tom Brady, was perhaps one of the biggest wins in KC's franchise history until the Mahomes era), since then? We have, inarguably, seen some of the worst regular season losses in the Andy era in those jerseys. Let's roll the tape.

Chiefs Red on Red history

September 15, 2013 vs.*Dallas Cowboys

Chiefs 17, Cowboys 16

September 29, 2014 vs.*New England Patriots

Chiefs 41, Patriots 14

November 30, 2014 vs.*Denver Broncos

Broncos 29, Chiefs 16 - AWFUL, AWFUL LOSS. A lot like yesterday's Bills loss.

September 17, 2015 vs. Denver Broncos

Broncos 31, Chiefs 24 - Worst loss of the Alex era? Winning gives us HFA that year

December 8, 2016 vs.*Oakland Raiders

Chiefs 21, Raiders 13

October 19, 2017 vs. Oakland Raiders

Raiders 31, Chiefs 30 - BLAH TERRIBLE LOSS GOD.

December 16, 2017 vs.*Los Angeles Chargers

Chiefs 30, Chargers 13

October 21st, 2018 vs Cincinnati Bengals

Chiefs 45, Bengals 10

December 13, 2018 vs.*Los Angeles Chargers

Chiefs 28, Chargers 29 - One of the worst losses of the Mahomes era.

October 6, 2019 vs Indianapolis Colts

Chiefs 13, Colts 19 - Erving stomps on Mahomes game.

December 6th, 2020 vs. Denver Broncos

Chiefs 22, Broncos 16

October 10, 2021 vs. Buffalo Bills

Chiefs 20, Bills 38 -

Chiefs have a 6-6 record in those jerseys in the Andy era.

Obviously we didn't lose due to the jerseys. But considering recent history they just don't have the same impact as they did in 2014. I wouldn't mine retiring this tradition for a bit.

Jersey color is unrelated to fielded performance

If it looks nice, wear it

Dump the Red on Red. We suck in them and they are just plain ugly.

I love the way they look but the team just hasn't played well in them. Likely just happenstance more than anything but I wouldn't mind them being scrapped for a while.

We’re 1-2 at home since the GEHA name change. Better roll that back as well.

The red on red just looks amatuerish.

My wife walked in during the first drive and asked why I was watching a college team with bad uniforms.

I am on board with this. GEHA was really the best we could do as a sponsor?

Yep. Remind me too much of the Arizona Cardinals or Iowa State Cyclones. I remember when Gunther Cunningham brought back the white jersey/red pants for road games in 2000. That was cool The red on red is not a big part of Chiefs history.

I had a personal meltdown on that one. I started a thread about Andy Reid in the aftermath of that one that will probably outlive me.
