Tyrann Mathieu reiterates he wants to stay in Kansas City at NFL Honors

Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu — a nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award — joined NFL Network on the red carpet ahead of the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Mathieu is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after three seasons in Kansas City.

“Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” said Mathieu. “We created so much history the last couple of years... I want to be in Kansas City, and I think everybody knows that.”

There is a twitter video but I am unable to post it here for some reason Follow link below.

If he wanted to stay here then he should've played a hell of a lot better than he did this year.

The performance he gave for the price he will command makes this an easy decision for us.

Bye bye.

If Tyrann does move on who is going to call the D? The couple of games Tyrann did not play the D looked like they had no clue where to line up.

They have an entire offseason to work on that because they can actually plan for it instead of just throwing them to fire. They'll be fine no matter what they do.

That's fine if you think he'll make a difference in the last year of his contract. You can backload all you want, but you may have to carry dead cap like we'll have to do with Clark.

Clark's dead cap hit isn't that bad because of the way they structured his contract. They could do the same thing with HB and not be in bad shape at all.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was brought back on a similar deal he got the first time.

He’d get a very small first year cap hit ($5.93 cap hit in 2019).

They could have him cheap in 2022 and only 1 season with a high cap hit in 2023, which would likely be less than his franchise tag this year. Then we could cut him in year 3 and get money back.

I think it’s time to move on, but I think our staff really want him back and if they did I think that’s what it would look like. But then again I thought they’d keep Fisher this time last year like the rest of us and we all saw what happened.

Maybe the coaches can do their ****ing jobs instead. Or we can fire at least the DB coaches and give that salary to Mathieu under the table to lower his cap hit.

The entire staff needs to be evaluated. It wasn't just coaching, it's also an issue of talent. After HB and Thornhill, they've got jack and shit.

Hopefully Veach passes on it, just like Mathieu passed on hitting anyone this season.

Too old, too small, too slow, avoids contact like the plague, made zero plays after his first game back, Twitter diva, wants a ton of cash.

No thanks.

Exactly, needs to be addressed almost as badly as DL.

If he is resigned, a large portion of the salary needs designated for him to get more natural looking teeth.

At one point, he was talking about wanting to be the highest paid safety in the league.
