Dunca's Final Mock (for real this time)

One more time... it's time to mock draft, oh yeah, start the drafting.

One more time... breaking out what I think will happen.

1.21 George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue
(trade run using Rich Hill chart). Chiefs get the high floor, young DE they can start re-loading the D around.

2.35 Arnold Ebeketie, DE, Penn State. Ebeketie is a good complement to Karlaftis, with bend and explosion. Hopefully he learns to defend the run better next year, when he ascends to the RE spot.

2.50 Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor. Missed on Gordon and Elam and Booth (all gone at 35) so I pivot to take a S who can play the slot and beef up my nickel base set.

2.58 John Metchie III, WR, Alabama. I use the capital acquired in the trade back from 30 to move up into the 2nd and nab a discounted receiver with star potential.

2.62 Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama. I really like Tolbert, and double-dip to improve the room.

3.83 Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma. Let's move up improve that LB group with a speedy, versatile, raw LB. Special teams monster from the start, hopefully ascends to be a good subpackage "big dime" or nickel LB. It was tough to pass on Troy Andersen, but the packages are so similar and Asomoah is less risky, so...

6.184 Sam Webb, CB, Missouri Western State. I ship a couple 7ths and 2023 6th to the Vikings to come up and grab a developmental shot local product. Webb has the athletic profile the Chiefs like.

7.251 Noah Elliss, DT, Idaho Here's another developmental stab. Athletic DT with some upside.

And that's it for Duncan.

If Karlaftis falls this far, I think the Chiefs will be aggressive seeking after him. If KC can walk away from the draft with 2 DE and 2 WR who can contribute right away (and preferably a DE who can start Day 1), and also add an immediate contributor in the secondary, I think it's a success no matter which direction they go with the depth pieces.

I think Pitre gives them a lot of flexibility moving forward (not as much as Dax Hill, but he also wasn't an option at 29 or 30). I really like the complementary nature of the DE and WR I got here. Karlaftis and Ebeketie have the potential to be an awesome and inexpensive pair of starting ends for year 2-4 of their rookie deals. Tolbert and Metchie are both versatile receivers who can do some of everything and do it well. Asamoah offers long-term help in pass D/sub sets (and also is good enough to potentially start in a 43 base). And you get a couple of nice developmental options at the end.

I hope it ends up being something like this when all is said and done.

I think this is the best I've seen so far. I'm not that high on Karlaftis and I'd prioritise WR earlier, but I think the double dips are in the right areas and i love Pitre.

I think the worst case scenario here should still see our DL LB and S groups all improve on last year and become cheaper. WRs, i like the picks and I love the potential depth. I'm fairly pessimistic about the concept of muliltiple WRs replacing what Hill brought but we are where we are, I think it's good to double up and pretty early.

Think the CB room looks pretty bad in that scenario, but with as many needs as KC has there's a good chance we can't fill every single hole.

Good thing there's not still an entire summer to sign/trade.

Find a way to bring in Bradberry and you're good. Even without him....you can have Pitre be your NB for most of the snaps if you need him too.

Plan/goal would be we spend most of our time in the nickel and Pitre plays the slot.

That's why I prefer him and Hill to a guy like Cine at S. I'm not as sold on Cine's ability to be a slot corner/nickel, but Hill and Pitre both can play that role (and did in college) and both guys are physical enough to let you get away with the nickel as more of a base set (especially if your LBs are Bolton and Gay).

I'd want to bring in some FA depth to cover me in case of injury in this scenario, but that is do-able.

In this run, I came in planning to take a DE or CB at 35 and Gordon, Booth, and Elam were all gone, so I went DE. None of the S worth 35 were there, either. So Ebeketie made the most sense.

In retrospect, I might have taken my first WR stab at 35 instead (Pickens, Moore, and Watson all went between 35 and 50) and seen what was available at DE at 50 or 62 (this would have kept me from needing to trade up to 58 to get Metchie and saved some draft capital).

I also could have dipped for Coby Bryant or Zyon McCollum at 83 instead of Asamoah.

Only Webb in the 6th at CB looks problematic to me too, but **** it. The rest is great to me.

Yeah. You’re looking to pick up a veteran outside CB in this scenario. But I think that’s the case regardless of whether KC spends a high pick on a true CB or on a S who can be your primary nickepback.

Either way, you are an injury to a top CB away from having to play DeAndre Baker.

I'm surprised you didn't save a fourth for a RT like Kellen Kiesch, Max Mitchel, Rasheed Walker, or Matt Maltzodkfoskn. I've been consistently trying to do so if they fall correctly, I think we will need the extra O Line juice looking at the gamut of DE and LB's we now have in the AFC West.
