Dolphins may be legit

I still cannot come to terms with the Bengals losses last year. They are basically the same team they were last year again now.

It's interesting to compare the Dolphins and the Bengals. These offenses have a tremendous collection of skill position players. The have somewhat mediocre offensive line play (LAC is okay). Tua, Herbert and Burrow came out in the same draft class and were constantly compared to each other.

Burrow has worn the hat as "the next Tom Brady" since getting hot last year. Herbert is apparently the next Rodgers or something. Tua has been considered trash despite compiling a 17-7 career record as a starter which is considerably better than Burrow (or Herbert for that matter).

Through two games it's blatantly obvious that the Dolphins offense is light years better than anything Burrow or Herbert have ever mustered. This is thanks in large part to Mike McDaniels and the Phins coaching staff.

Miami gets Buffalo and Cincinnati over the next two weeks.

Mmmm, let's take another look at this game.

BAL was dominating this game until the 4th Q. BAL scored 35 points through 3 quarters, MIA 14. Then the BAL defense decided to just up and forget that Tyreek Hill could run really fast and let him run by them twice for a pair of 50+ yard scores, which is what it took for MIA to just tie the game.

Somebody shit the bed, and it seems pretty obvious that it was the BAL defense/DC more than it was the incredible play of the MIA offense, though they did play well once they got themselves back into it, a la Reek.

I mean look at the BAL offensive stats:

Lamar passing:

21/29
318 yds
11.0yd/att
3TD, 0 INT
0 sacks
86.0QBR/142.6 PRTG

Rushing:

155yds/rushing (L. Jackson 119yds/9carries)

I mean, if any team in the league has that stat line, you're first guess is that they won the game. Even looking at their defensive stats, they don't look terrible. Okay, yeah, they gave up 469yds passing, but only 86 yds rushing. They got a pair of INTs, a sack, 7 PDs, 4 TFLs, two QB hits, and scored a defensive TD.

Aside from the passing yards, the defense statistically played a decent game.

Of course, Stats don't show the inexcusable breakdown that allowed Tyreek to run free down the sideline twice for long scores that ultimately tied up the game, but metrics are everything, so we don't care what our eyes see, right?

My take is that MIA was getting their shit pushed in for 45+ minutes when the DC for BAL decided to mail it in or something equally stupid, allowing the MIA offense to finally get some traction until the Tyreek lightning strikes happened. Without those two inexplicable mistakes by the BAL D, the Dolphins still lose by two scores.

But MIA is a legitimate playoff contender with Tyreek. Not a SB contender, or even a legit AFC championship contender, but a pretty good playoff contender as of right now.

I feel like we should recognize more than anyone that Tyreek Hill's secret power is figuring out how to blow up a defense. Very good defenses can shut him down for the majority of a game, but he can make anyone look bad.

When two very good teams come together, the games are typically shoot outs.

The question for Miami is how does McDaniel handle the two high shells. For whatever reason, I have confidence in him to stay ahead of it.

The question for Miami is what they look like vs a better pass rush. Tua can't really scramble and create like Mahomes, Jackson, or Allen. McDaniel will need to scheme the hell out of things for him.

People talk about the Ravens always drafting well. That's a myth. Kyle Hamilton looks to be a massive bust. Guy cannot read coverages if his life depended on it. Last year's first rounder Oweh has also been very dissapointing. Queen can't tackle a chopstick. These are players drafted in the first round.

Could they be legit? Sure. But they've beaten a mediocre Patriots team and a Ravens team with a ton of injuries on defense. I don't blame Dolphins fans for getting excited, but there's a reason that the season isn't two games long.

I said it in one of the game threads but Miami offensively is going to be a problem mostly because of the Hill factor. But they have legit threats everywhere and the only thing that will hold them back is Tua.

Same people that say the Dolphins suck are the ones who said we’d trounce Cincy last year. We’d beat them, but they are probably gonna be a tough matchup for most teams. Next week when they play Buffalo we’ll know more.

The Ravens have never been highly regarded because they hit on everyone they pick. They've been highly regarded because they ALWAYS accumulate tons of picks and some of them end up being good.

It's not shock that I few players they draft aren't good.

The Dolphins rise is a good thing. Do we honestly want the Bills division to be a cakewalk?

Who said they suck? Maybe one or two people but they were clearly joking.

I'm just not convinced they are some AFC powerhouse because of a 4-pt win in week 2 over a banged up Ravens team. Let's see how they do against the Bills next week.
