Effective cap space for all nfl teams

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-salary-...nked-cap-space

Interesting stuff.

Tampa = fire sale
Saints = LOLOLOL
Buffalo = trouble
Chargers = hold my beer… wait for Herbert’s contract to kick in

Chiefs in good shape. Veach is a damn treasure.

I don't know what "effective" is but we're going to be pushing $45m if they cut Clark, extend Jones and put Brown on an actual contract.

this is what I found in that article:

Quote:
2. OT ORLANDO BROWN JR., KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Free agent rank: 10

After threatening to hold out for the 2022 season following a franchise-tag saga that didn’t culminate in a long-term deal, Brown turned a slow start into a strong second half protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. From Week 10 to the end of the regular season, Brown’s 88.7 pass-blocking grade ranked third best among left tackles.

He may not become one of the game’s true top tackles given his much-maligned athletic limitations, but he’s a very reliable blindside protector who has succeeded in two diametrically opposed offensive schemes.

I think it makes sense. They are basically saying what's on the books already, plus signing a bunch of league minimum contracts, leaves you with...how much?

Effective* = *Represents the maximum cap space a team will have when it signs at least 51 players to its roster for that season.

According to this we are negative 600K? I know we have to make some moves, cutting Clark, Signing OBJ, JuJu, BIG money to CJ!

I do not see how we are in good shape? Thats a ton of money and does NOT include one free agent signing.

I don't think the OP is super accurate.

The Chiefs are in fantastic cap/roster position for 2023. I made my case here.

Yeah, it’s not perfect. But trying to run a bunch of scenarios about what teams might do seems way too subjective. You could argue the same that it doesn’t consider paying Justin Herbert or burrow likely getting his extension next year. I think PFFs is a good simple way that avoids a lot of assumptions about what teams might do. It’s not to say chiefs are in bad shape because they’re in the red. It’s mostly to talk about teams in the top and bottom 5 or ten who are either in great or terrible shape.

This is why we should never believe anyone who claims the cap can be cheated. This was many years of bandaiding last ditch efforts to win with drew Brees. Not surprisingly the bucs would be in the same situation with Brady. When you have a HOF qb on the very last years why not go for broke and then sledgehammer the team.

What’s crazy and exciting about the chiefs is they are doing this all without a ton of backloading. They have TONS of flexibility to bulk up for an immediate run. Or make a big move to put us over the top. We also seem just damn fine to put a Super Bowl run for years and years with a well managed cap.

I still can’t help but wonder if we stay very safe with our cap for a year or 2 knowing there is a shitload of young QBs on rookie contracts. Why waste your biggest cap years when the competition is a little tighter.
