Pre-Combine Mock Draft (3 rounds)

1. B.J. Ojulari, EDGE, LSU - simply put, this is the perfect compliment to Karlaftis. Ojulari, like Karlaftis, is really young (not even 21 yet), and his upside is a double digit sack guy. I'll bet on the traits at the end of the 1st with zero hesitation. Bring Clark back for early downs and to mentor for a year. Ojulari is a day 1 situational pass rusher that could be getting snaps by the end of the season.

2. Keaanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin - another guy that would compliment his counterpart perfectly. He can play the nose while also having an impact on passing downs. Also only 21, turning 22 in July. Benton absolutely dominated for his short time at the Senior Bowl, and would be a great fit and value at the end of the 2nd.

3. Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan St. - I don't think I'll be mocking him this late as the draft gets close, but for now, this seems to be the consensus on his range. If so, the Chiefs get a potential steal after the value doesn't quite work out at WR in the first 2 rounds.

I'm not massive on Ojulari, there's a couple of guys I'd take ahead of him that I think might be there. But I'd be pretty ecstatic with these 3 picks.

This feels very realistic to me, could see it play out this way and wouldn't be mad at all.

Just now starting to look at tape. Though I wouldn't be upset with either, initial impressions are I like BJ Ojulari better than Derick Hall. Ojulari seems like more of a quick-twitch guy than Hall. Looking at tape, I was surprised that Ojulari had 15 lbs on Hall. The way they move it seems like it would be the other way around.

edit: Shouldn't have relied on Google for measurables. They have Hall listed at 216lbs. As it seemed when I watched some tape, Hall is the heavier guy, at least at this point.

Those first two picks slide right into this defense.

Ojulari is going to take a season to get stronger and more sound, technically, but he makes perfect sense if the Chiefs keep Frank Clark on a restructured deal.

Benton, man. People do not know this man enough. He is going to be peak Mike Pennel for this team and start on Day One next to Jones.

I like it. They need to hammer the OL/DL this draft. Just pile as many dudes as you can there.

The theory goes:

1. His brother is the exact same athlete BJ is, and he's on the verge of being a top 8 edge rusher. Reid likes family trees.

2. He needs some seasoning to get bigger/stronger.

3. This DL is simply not racking up enough sacks yet. Roughly 30% of our sacks this past year were off blitzes. We got better as the year went on but we need another threat on the edge, and Ojulari sure seems to be a slam dunk if you can get his size/strength adjusted.

He's listed at 250. Are you thinking of Nolan Smith?

I haven’t looked at the draft yet but I love that you’re attacking the DL.

He was listed at 244 last year, I believe, and even that seemed to be generous. I'm sure he reaches the combine at at least that though.

I like Hall by a reasonable amount more than Ojulari but if Hall weren't there I wouldnt' be upset with Ojulari.

As for Benton, I highly doubt he's there at the end of 2. I don't think he's making it past Pittsburgh in the 2nd. If the Chiefs want him, it'd be with a trade up into the mid 40's I think. Nobody is higher on that kid than I am but I just can't go there round 1.

I like Jayden Reed where you have him. I think that's a fair place.

I'm the same, I prefer Hall. Pundits seem to prefer Ojulari but I don't see the hype about his athleticism, people rave about his get off but it looks pretty pedestrian to me
