[Florio speculates about] Raiders and Ben Johnson as HC

AFC West has to be the division with the best coaches, right? Andy, Harbaugh, Payton, and now potentially a gifted player caller in Ben Johnson...

Quote:
There’s currently no other destination that fits. Johnson has interviewed with the Raiders, Bears, Jaguars, and Patriots. The alignment he wants doesn’t exist in Jacksonville, and likely isn’t in play with the Bears. Unless the Cowboys (who blew their window to interview Johnson at any time before the Lions’ season ends because they didn’t interview him via Zoom last week) make a late run, it’s the Raiders or the status quo for Johnson.

More and more people in league circles believe it will be the Raiders.

Yeah I hope they get him. Great OC but has never been a HC and thinks he can make any QB work in his system is a recipe for failure. I hope they get him I love when that fan base gets pumped only to be crushed. I remember they thought they were something when they traded for Adams

Until he goes to LV and then that will be the biggest mistake. That’s gonna be a huge hill to climb and I am genuinely curious about how long he would get to make it work.

I am by no means defending Johnson here, but to think that Jayden would be this good this quickly is probably a product of hindsight.

Lack of QB

very curious to see what impact brady has on the raiders if he's gonna be involved like he's been recently

i mean if he can help them get ben johnson i'd say that's a good sign for what brady can do

Oh God. If that's actually true you cannot give him control of personnel.

No it’s that he didn’t even consider LV until Brady talked to his agent and fired Telesco. Brady’s influence is getting him in the door and possibly hired. A huge step up from where they were.

I do agree the guy is gonna have a rough go of it if he takes the job

Remembering how Ben Johnson dicked around Washington last year… and it turns out he may have missed out on a great available HC opportunity… coaching Jayden Daniels, a historic franchise coming back to life under new ownership, etc.

It would be fitting if Washington knocks him out of the playoffs this weekend.

I would bet a large amount of money that several teams don't want to deal with him after last year. The Raiders may be one of his only chances.

So we're judging this guys credibility as a coach for 1) not wanting Jayden Daniels (a lot of people thought he might be a bit of a 1-year wonder and that he was too thin) and 2) wanting a say in personnel decisions (of which Andy Reid has some input here so...)?

I'm not buying into the bullshit. He has options outside of LV and he doesn't have to take a one of them this year either.

I’m not predicting his failure, but he still hasn’t proven that he’ll be anything more than a Mike Martz clone.

Hell, we don’t know if he’s anything more than an Adam Gase clone.

The resume is a starting point and nothing more. And if the guy is making demands and turning down offers from multiple teams, that’s acting awfully big for his britches. He would be wise to remember that he’s nothing until he proves himself

eh, adam gase got jobs cuz he was butt buddies with peyton. johnson turned a guy who was meh into a key cog of a well oiled machine. he has more actual cred than Gase IMO

the daniels thing is really bad though. not only that but it implies he’d essentially be choosing howell over not just daniels, but penix, nix, and maye. 3 guys all clearly better than sam howell immediately. but idk what to believe rn, i imagine theres some gamesmanship to some of this shit coming out rn

Goff isn't much better in Detroit than he was in LA. In fact two of his top 3 scoring season were as a Ram. I don't think Johnson did THAT much.
