WHAT HAPPENED TO PRIEST IN THE PASSING GAME?

I've been away from the NFL. Is it just me, or has Saunders really cut Holmes out of the passing game a lot? He used to really get a lot of touches in the air which kept the other defense honest. Didn't Priest lead the team in receiving one season? He caught 2 for -2 yds against the Donx and had 3 for 16 today.

It sure seems that the chiefs O is getting more one-dimensional. Richardson used to be a big part of the receiving game as well. Dang, Carolina was hitting back up TEs, the FB, the 3rd string WRs, the towel boy, etc...

Teams seem to be betting on keeping Priest as tight as they can, double teaming Tony "I'm as good as a WR" Gonzales and daring the chiefs to use anybody else. It seems to be working.

From a KC Star article I posted this morning about having to give teams heavy doses of Priest:

Quote:
“I'm not really one to complain about carries,” Holmes says. “There was a time when I wasn't getting carries. Anybody would like to be in this position. Once you get into that seat, you try to ride it as long as you can.

“The only thing I've said I want less of is receptions. I'm old school. I feel that's the responsibility of the wide receiver. That's why you pay him. He's the one that should be having 1,000 or 1,200 yards and having the 80 to 90 catches. I don't believe a back should have to do those kinds of things. But the game has changed. You see backs like LaDainian (Tomlinson) with 100 catches. I've had three seasons in a row with more than 60 catches.”
There you go. I do think Priest has say in what we call on offense. I remember last year when they did that "7 days to Monday Night" or whatever it is they do at halftime on MNF, Al specifically asks Priest at one point which draw plays he likes and wants for the coming week....

Glad to see you back around Johnny!

I agree with Htismaqe, 16 touches is crazy. Priest was the only part of our offense that was working today and we didn't use him. Inexcusable.

And I have no problem with that, so long as AS actually gives him the plays in a significant quantity.

Of course I cannot decide if this says something bad or good about our OC.....
