When the shop-vac is down I spray some WD40 in there and then use duct tape to pull out the wax.

I used to work with a guy who was constantly digging in his ears with a paper clip. No big thing in and of itself but he would leave the damn things laying on his desk: earwax encrusted paperclips in plain sight.
Gross.

I've been told that candling is a sham. I've also been told that it's dangerous because it removes too much wax.

I'd be curious if anyone knows the real deal on it.

In fine print you'll see that this rule only applies to pussies and the elderly.

Best way is to get a big 50 cc syringe (with no neddle obviously) and fill it with warm water and put the end in your ear canal and push the plunger in and squirt it into you ear as fast as it will come out. It will flush out all the excees wax.

I had a friend that used ear candles and it definitely works. It's pretty amazing/disgusting to see how much wax is in an ear.

If you jam a Q-Tip in your ear, you'll actually pack the wax down in your ear. Then for about 4 days you won't be able to hear hardly at all out of your ear. This happened to a friend of mine in high school, we all made fun of him repeatedly.

I've heard its dangerous just because you could get the hot searing candle wax in your ear.

A decent amount of internet research has led me to believe it's a scam. It removes no ear wax at all and is dangerous as sometimes the candle wax drains down into the ear and burns something.

See, I've been told that all that crap you see isn't actually ear wax, but rather a by product of the process. I don't know because I've never done it.

But if it really does remove that much wax, it's my understanding that your ear produces wax to protect itself and removing too much is dangerous.
