Seems like a story non story to me.

It wasn't dramatically disproportionate in telling the story. It tells what happened and then relates factual information on what would happen if he could not complete his term.

I didn't see anything particularly distasteful in the story, the fact that he might die and shift the balance of power in the senate is very significant news.

The media reports what people want to see. If the media reports about happy shiny people then viewers change the channel. That's the way it is.
