Where does eveyone stand on smoking bans?

I think it should be up to the owner, and would even be willing to have it up to the owner if you have to be 21 to enter. City wide is bullshit IMO

Oh no, not at all. I just had two heart surgerys.

The compromise is, exactly like we both mentioned in previous posts. The owner of the establishment should have a right. If it is non-smoking, so be it, smokers should be able find a place they prefer. Likewise for the non-smoker, if it bothers him, go find someplace else.

Whats next Laz, are you willing to let them tell you your old lady can't give you a blow job in your own house? That might offend someone you know, where do you draw the line?


Seem silly to you? Let me tell you, 20 years ago these laws sounded just as far fetched.

I enjoy the plexiglass cages they have in some airports. It's fun to just stand and watch the people inside like at a zoo. The rooms are chock full of fog and, through the mist, you can just make out the forlorn faces of the smoker people as they stare back out through the haze and glass with their ever so elegant cigarettes hanging from their ever so elegant lips.

Maybe Bob Dole isn't communicating what he's suggesting clearly.

You'd have the choice of identical restaurant/bars, where one is smoke-free and the other has a smoking section.

And while you and many others would obviously choose the smoke-free alternative, there are a lot of other people beyond the 18% that would choose to hang out with the smokers, even if they didn't smoke. We're the fun ones, after all...

Honestly, I don't know. I was probably more mindful of it and considerate than most.

I believe in the concept of reasonable expectation. If you go in a bar where most of the patrons smoke, you shouldn't expect everybody to bend to your will. It's not like there weren't non-smoking bars/restaurants before the ban. Non-smokers could go there. Must non-smokers control every single bar and restaurant? Sorry, but I just don't buy into this dumbassdannazifan idea that everybody has to alter their lives just because I don't like something.

I absolutely hate being around smoke so I'm good with the ban but I would also be ok with a city offering a restricted number of 'smoking licenses' that businesses could obtain. Just like liquor licenses, there would only be a restricted number available and a business would have to apply (and pay) to get one. Of course, I would want far fewer smoking licenses than liquor licenses so that I could still go to bars and not stink like an ashtray.

The point is that as new information becomes available people should adjust their habits. Frankly though, I think you have to remove a lot of lawyers before you start removing a bunch of laws.

that's why i said "i agree" when you talked about government keeping their dam noses out of things.

i don't want them in my bedroom and i don't want them telling me how to live.

Government has one job and that is protection imo

the question is, where does the government job start and end "protecting" people from 2nd hand smoke?


maybe ban smoking .... but then let owners apply/sign up to be a smoking establishment? That way people have the ability to assume "clean air" unless the front of the building says "Smoking establishment"

Lets put it this way. I have many friends that don't smoke. Thats cool and when i'm at their home I wont smoke even though they tell me I can. I tell them that i'm not gonna stink up their home with smoke. I've always been that way. Its just common courtesy. I don't care if I have to freeze my ass to smoke it's my problem and ill go outside and take of it.

The federal govt. has very limited duties. Protect your Constitutional rights, provide a common defense, and a common banking system being the biggies.

Your local govt. was supposed to be allowed to be as communist / fascist / anarchist as the locals wanted.

We f**ked that all up over a century ago.
