I can't remember...

if I told you guys that I messed up my ankle in K-stan around the June time frame and when I got back to the States the Military MHS (medical hobby shop) sent me to physical therapy (with the MRI report in hand that said I had a torn tendon - this was in October) and to be patient..... Well, in January I went to Flordia for field training/exercise and managed to rip the ligaments (results from yet another MRI that the military said was "unneccessary") on the opposite side of the same ankle. They told me to continue physical therapy and "be patient". While playing their stupid game I finally managed to get a second opinion (with a REAL doctor) and ended up having surgery Monday afternoon. While I'm not excited to have to have surgery - or be on crutches... I am pretty happy that THIS will be the fix that my ankle obviously needed. (a tendon repair, a ligament repair, many bone fragments removed - one was a little over an inch long, and a bunch of scar tissue removed).

So now for the next few days - all I'm doing is sitting in my recliner, taking serious pain meds - watching the occasional tv program & use the good ole laptop until the pain meds knock me out. LOL

Other than the whole ankle thing I envy you.
Are you at home in Rapid or elsewhere now?

LOL - Thanks!

I'm home in Rapid now. The amazing thing was that for the FIRST time - I am on REAL conv. leave! I get to sit in my recliner with my leg up until the 16th! Of course, now that I'm cutting back on the pain pills - I'm starting to get bored to sitting around. BUT.... everytime I get up and start moving around - my toes start to turn purple and I start to get lightheaded.

One of these days I'm going to have to get up there to see Mt. Rushmore among other things. I can't believe I haven't been up there yet since I've been in Scottsbluff. But no one here want's to go other than to go gambling. Maybe I should just go by myself one of these weekends.

Well... drop 'em in Deadwood and go see Mt Rushmore from there. It's not really all that far from there. If you make it this way - there's lots to see though - add Crazy Horse, Badlands, Devil's Tower, Custer State Park to name a few. And of course, if I'm in town - I could meet ya for a burger.

That's exactly the stuff I want to see. I'm always up for a burger.

Meh, Crazy Horse is a tourist trap. I wasn't going to pay $20 or whatever it was to see where some guy blew a few rocks off of a mountain. Is that thing ever supposed to be done?

LOL - Mt Rushmore is more of a tourist trap than Crazy Horse. And the last time I was up there - there wasn't a fee to get into the Crazy Horse area (there is one for Mt Rushmore). They have made some progress over the last couple years - all of the money they raise is thru donations (the reason that their progress is so slow, where Mt Rushmore used federal money).

link to Crazy Horse info.

I was up back in 2004, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere there was a fee to get in so I didn't even bother going there. I think that fee included a rock from the mountain that you could take home with you, w00t! As far as Mt Rushmore, you CAN'T go to the Black Hills without going there, I think it's a law or something.

Have you ever been to that maze outside of Rapid City? That thing frustrated the hell out of me.

As far as I know.... Crazy Horse doesn't have a fee - let me know if you come back into the area and I'll double check that for you. I've gone up there once - and didn't have to pay anything (to include parking).

The maze outside of RC... hmmm - I have to admit, I haven't even heard of a maze. After I'm mobile I'll have to look into it (esp if it's open "off tourist season"). Do you remember about where it was?

I've always wanted to come back and ride my bike on the Mickelson Trail, but who knows if I'll ever get around to it.
