End of story: Shanahan is not taking Chief's job

Shanahan is not taking Chief's job

KANSAS CITY - Mike Shanahan may not have a new job after all. After reports surfaced the former Denver Broncos head coach was close to taking the top job with the Kansas City Chiefs, those reporting that have backtracked.

ESPN now reports only that the Chiefs are targeting Shanahan for their head coaching job after the team fired Herm Edwards on Friday. Initially, ESPN reported that a deal was near between the Chiefs and Shanahan.

Edwards was fired after going 15-34 in three seasons. He still had one year left in his original four-year, $12 million contract.

The NFL Network's Adam Schefter, who recently finished writing a book with Shanahan, maintains Shanahan will not be taking the job with the Chiefs and is not considering it.

"They are not near a deal. They are not near a deal right now, they were not near a deal yesterday, they will not be near a deal tomorrow. Mike Shanahan will not be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs," Schefter told 9NEWS. "All the people in Denver can stop worrying or stop talking about it, it's not happening. I know there have been national reports to the other effect. I'm here to tell you just the opposite, it's not going to happen."

Schefter says he has spoken with Shanahan directly about it.

"I speak to Mike regularly, there has been nothing in his tone or in his message that has given me any indication that he will be the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. I know for a fact they've not had contact to this point. The Chiefs may in fact reach out to him in the coming days and even then I firmly believe it will not change anything," Schefter said.

The Broncos have hired new head coach and former New England Patriots offense coordinator Josh McDaniels to replace Shanahan.

When he was fired, Shanahan still had three years left on his contract, worth about $20 million.

It makes complete sense. Complete sense.

You don't **** with Don Pioli. You send one of his reports to ESPN, he sends your career to the morgue.

I don't know if that is Shanahan or Cowher or what but there is an awful lot of smoke around the Rat rumors.
Way too many unrelated people have said this is happening. Sorry to everyone unhappy with it, but where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

I need to find the soundbite of him saying he would be happy for Mike anywhere he went but Kansas City.

The way Pioli does busness, and IF the Rat is in the running.....yeah he is giving no one SHIT, but if or when it dies break maybe he told him he could have it. Bottom line, no one knows, pretty funny watching the media get "flustrated"

Jack Harry 1 - Adam 0

Edit: Mort -4, man he has been so far off, it's laughable.

Adam Schefter has been a reporter and key source of breaking news for NFL Network since 2004. He is the author of three books and a former president of the Pro Football Writers of America.
An excerpt from 9News:
Quote:
They are not near a deal.

I have to believe him. The notion that Schefter says, he has spoken with Shanahan directly about it, shoots down the rumor.

Schefter is a reporter. His credibility is at risk, along with the reputation of the NFL Network.

The NFL Network, have the right to surpress the information if they are truly interested in the risk to the brand and their name.

I would be shocked, if this story did not pan out. Then again, I have to remind myself, it is sports we're dealing with. Still, the quest for higher ratings depends on the consumers trusting the information.

Conspiracy theory - do you think the NFL wants a franchise bypassing the Rooney rule a few days after the first black President was elected? It would be terribly bad for their image.

ESPN reports it, NFL freaks out, Schefter is the cover up, Chiefs quickly interview a minority, then hire Shanahan (Schefter backtracked and said it was possible the Chiefs might talk to Shanahan in the future).

DUMBEST...SHIT...EVER.

USA Today
announced on Wednesday that Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe and CB Brandon Carr have been named to the All-Joe Team. Both Bowe and Carr are receiving the honor for the first time in their careers. The All-Joe Team takes its name from former Chiefs DT Joe Phillips who played 14 seasons for Kansas City, San Diego and Minnesota before retiring in ‘99. According to USA Today’s Larry Weisman, the All-Joe Team is represented by “hard-working, overlooked, underappreciated player(s) who do the dirty work simply because that’s (their) lot in life.”
Bowe (6-2, 221) started all 16 games for the Chiefs in 2008 and totaled a career-high 86 catches for a career-best 1,022 yards (11.9 avg.) with seven TDs. He joined WR Otis Taylor as the second player in franchise history to register a 1,000-yard season in just his second pro campaign. Those 86 catches were the fifth-highest single-season total in Chiefs history. Bowe also led all NFL receivers with 15 broken tackles according to STATS, LLC.
Bowe has totaled 156 receptions for 2,017 yards (12.9 avg.) and 12 TDs over his first two professional campaigns. No player in his inaugural two seasons with Kansas City has more catches or receiving yards. Bowe also leads all 2007 draftees in terms of catches as the next-closest 2007 draftee to Bowe in that category is Detroit WR Calvin Johnson (126). Johnson was the second overall pick, while Bowe was picked 27th overall in the 2007 NFL Draft.
A native of Miami, Florida, Bowe was Kansas City’s first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft. He concluded his collegiate career at LSU as one of the top receivers in school history, finishing his time in Baton Rouge with 154 receptions for 2,403 yards (15.6 avg.) and a school-record 26 TDs.
Carr (6-0, 207) was the first rookie cornerback to start all 16 games for the Chiefs since CB Kevin Ross in ‘84, opening 14 contests at left cornerback and two games as the club’s nickel cornerback. He finished his first professional season fifth on the squad with 77 tackles (71 solo), one tackle for loss, two INTs for 67 yards, six passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. Carr joined teammate CB Brandon Flowers, Washington S Chris Horton, Arizona CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Tampa Bay CB Aqib Talib as the only five rookies with four or more takeaways. In perhaps his finest performance of the season, Carr intercepted Denver QB Jay Cutler, recovered a WR Eddie Royal fumble, amassed three tackles and added a pass defensed in what fueled a 33-19 victory vs. the Broncos (9/28).
The Flint, Michigan native joined the Chiefs as the club’s fifth-round selection (140th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was part of a Grand Valley State squad that compiled a 50-4 record and won a pair of NCAA Division II national championships during his tenure. Carr concluded his collegiate career with 50 career pass breakups (11 INTs/39 PDs), the sixth-highest tally in NCAA Division II history.

Bowe????????????

Carr over Flowers?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I swear to God; I'm a fan of the dumbest ****ing franchise in the history of football.
