Tigers "Rufie Sex" the 12 in NFL Draft Picks!

Tigers Lead Big 12 With Six NFL Draft Picks Coffman, Brown, Sulak All Go On Day Two Of Draft April 26, 2009

Columbia, Mo. -
What a weekend it was for the Mizzou Football program, related to the 2009 NFL Draft. Three more Tiger standouts had their names called, bringing MU's total for the draft to a Big 12 Conference-best six. Chase Coffman (3rd round, Cincinnati Bengals), Colin Brown (5th round, Kansas City Chiefs) and Stryker Sulak (6th round, Oakland Raiders) became the newest wave of Tigers infiltrating the ranks of the National Football League, bringing the total number of players drafted under Head Coach Gary Pinkel to 16 overall, including 14 total in the last five drafts (2005-09).
As of late Sunday evening, two other Tigers had signed free agent contracts following the draft, with at least four others accepting invitations to workout for NFL teams. Record-setting QB Chase Daniel signed a free agent deal with the Washington Redskins shortly after the draft was over, and LB Brock Christopher signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Other Tigers who reportedly had accepted invitations to upcoming tryouts included QB Chase Patton (Chicago Bears), PK Jeff Wolfert (Chicago Bears), S Justin Garrett (Cincinnati Bengals) and WR Tommy Saunders (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Mizzou led the Big 12 with its six draftees in 2009. Here's a rundown of how the Big 12 teams fared in the draft this year:
  1. MIZZOU - 6
  2. Oklahoma - 5
  3. Texas - 4
  4. Texas Tech - 4
  5. Nebraska - 3
  6. Texas A&M - 2
  7. Baylor - 1
  8. Colorado - 1
  9. Kansas State - 1
  10. Oklahoma State - 1
  11. Iowa State - 0
  12. Kansas - 0
Nationally, only four schools had more draft picks than the Tigers. Here's a look at the top schools in this year's draft:
  1. USC - 11
  2. Ohio State - 7
  3. Oregon State - 7
  4. South Carolina - 7
  5. MIZZOU - 6
  6. Georgia - 6
  7. LSU - 6
  8. Oregon - 6
  9. Cincinnati - 6
The last time Mizzou had this many picks in an NFL Draft was back in 1981, when a total of seven Tigers were selected, with all going in the seventh round or above. Tigers taken that year included OT Howard Richards (1st round, Dallas Cowboys), RB James Wilder (2nd round, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), DB Eric Wright (2nd round, San Francisco 49ers), DE Wendell Ray (5th round, Minnesota Vikings), DB Johnnie Poe (6th round, New Orleans Saints), DB Bill Whitaker (7th round, Green Bay Packers) and DB Ron Fellows (7th round, Dallas Cowboys).

You know what is amazing? Of the seven Beavers drafted, not one of them was recruited by another PAC-10 school. All of them were unheralded (Norris was a walk-on) "low star" recruits. Shows you how good a college coach Mike Riley is.

Blaine Gabbert will be a 2nd to 1st round pick one day IMO if he can keep up with what he did in HS. I think the guy actually has a real future in the NFL unlike Chase Daniel. Its to bad. I really like Chase though.

Chase was a good springboard for the program and I'm glad he came along. Gabbert looks like his size, measurables, and experience with the pro-style system could really **** some of the competition up this year if they don't pay proper heed to him.

God; is it time for football yet?

In fact, the more I look at this kid, the less apprehension I have about this season. Wow, where did they find this guy? He's gonna' look like Rothlesburger out there among the pygmies.

2010 will be interesting. 3 OU Players in the top 10-12. OSU should have two top 15 picks as well.

Im excited to see how he does this year. Hes like Chase Daniel on roids lol. Hes got a stronger arm than Daniel, hes about 5 inches taller, heh. Hes very accurate for a young guy, and hes pretty smart with a good head on his shoulders. I expect him to be an awesome QB in college football.

What do you have to offer the Chiefs in terms of players who don't throw the football from behind the line of scrimmage?

But seriously, who should we be looking at this year? Got another Adrian Peterson?

If he does really well in his college career, but not top-ten well on the overall board in a year or two, hopefully late first / high second come NYC; how sweet would it be to kick Thigpen's ass to the curb and pick up a big bruiser like Gabbert if the price is right?
