Eric Berry vs. Taylor Mays

No, I'm not giving up on this season. This team isn't going to the playoffs. Plain and simple. But I'm still going to watch them and be encouraged by any progress I see. So if you want to bitch at me for starting a draft thread this early, go **** yourself in the eye with a sharp stick.

I've seen a couple Tennessee and USC games from last season. Taylor Mays looks MUCH better to me. He hits hard, wraps up, and is an athletic freak. Most boards I see though have Berry going before him. Granted, I'm not an NFL talent scout, but why is that?

Also, it would seem to me that this defense needs a big playmaker and that Taylor Mays is the perfect kind of athlete to fill that position versus a guy like Berry. Which one would be best for this team if we had an opportunity to draft either player this spring?

Excellent point. There won't be much in the FA market. That means this past years draft must really step up and KC must find starters from day 1 in next years draft or the 2010 season could be pretty bad.

I'm not as sold on Mays as others here. He is a great straight line athlete, but his lateral agility is mediocre, he has no ball skills, he is a head hunter and he doesn't wrap up.

I think Mays is the type of player who will be pretty good for a while, but will never end up as a dominant player or someone you can build a defense around.

Mays is a tremendous athlete, but it sometimes seems like he disappears on the field during stretches. Now one can of course argue that he's shutting down his portion of the field and QBs aren't throwing to him, but that really never happens to Berry. You watch UT play, Berry is all over the field making his presence known. You can't help but notice him.

I think Berry is a remarkable football player and I would definitely take him over Mays, no question. He's the next Ed Reed.

I did not watch all of this game, but if the play you are referring to is fairly early in the game down around the Tennessee 10 yard line, you have to take your hat off to both players. Tebow went pretty much straight down like a falling sack of potatoes. Berry, however did go backwards, giving somewhat of an illusion that Tebow ran him over. Hell of a hit from both of them.

I think football instincts wise, Berry has Mays by a mile. I think athleticism, Mays has Berry.

I'll take the guy with great football instincts. I don't give a shit about the guaranteed money he would command with where we are drafting, we have to get Eric Berry.

Go ahead and make room for me on the Eric Berry bandwagon.

The dude is an absolute ball hawk. He was everywhere. All day, every day. He was in the back field, in coverage, deflecting passes, stuffing the run, and even made a hella nice INT on Jesus. I've watched him play once and I'm sold. I've seen Mays play a couple times and he's one hell of a safety and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Chiefs uniform; but I'd kill for Berry. That guy is gonna be a star for a long time in this league. Our secondary would be ****ing sick...just beastly.
