Since this whole marijuana thing happened in Denver...

As history, I don't know exactly what happened, but apparently marijuana sale is legal now in Denver as long as you lie and say that you're a "medical marijuana" provider. I have no idea how a company provides false documents that they're a "medical marijuana" provider, or how a person obtains false documents to "prove" they have a need for "medical marijuana", but it's obvious to everybody in the city that it's a joke. We now have storefronts opening up to sell "medical marijuana", and other than the name they're not even trying to cover up what they're doing. (And yeah, yeah, whatever. If there's a need for medical marijuana that's legitimate, fine. But if there's a real need, its cause is being negatively impacted by all the fraud that's going on in Denver right now.)

So anyway, I've lived here for 16 years. In the first 15 years of living here, I was asked only once if I wanted to buy drugs. Some scary dude asked me once if I "wanted to buy" as I was walking home. Probably not marijuana.

In the last six to eight months, I've been asked three times if I wanted to buy marijuana, twice on my walk home and once when I was out shopping. The people offering me this stuff are skanky, nasty people that I do not want to talk to, much less buy stuff from. I don't want to encounter these people, deal with these people, talk to these people, or quite frankly, even see these people, much less ingest illegal stuff into my body that they're selling.

It's frustrating that these people are getting so emboldened that they're trying to sell this stuff to strangers on the street. And I'm not a guy who fits the profile, either - in fact, I probably look much more like an undercover cop than a buyer of recreational drugs. So if they're walking up trying to sell this stuff to me as I'm walking to work, they're walking up to everyone.

I really hate where this is heading. Denver is a nice city otherwise.

Not saying it's true for every instance but most of the narcs I met looked a lot like these two:

The only thing wrong with that guys outfit: His shirt is too black. I would expect his shirt to be hella faded.

Yeah, you're right. I should've probably said I look like a cop in the accounting division who got assigned temporarily when the real undercover cops went on vacation and didn't quite get the undercover part of it.

Upon closer inspection that may actually be Bob Dole on the right.

you left out the incurably insane, and the fits of rage it causes... (has somebody whisper something into my ear) well it turns out that is not true. it makes people peaceful, so peaceful, one might say pacifist. then when the commies invade, we'll all just lay down and let them roll over us.

(for those of you not up on hemp prohibition laws, this is the 180 our gov's policy on the herb did in the 50's when it became obvious that the 1930's logic was false. they needed a new fear besides minorities. its the 50's in the US, communism was the perfect scapegoat)

I'd advise you to buy some and try it out; but I fear your graphing skills may suffer as a consequence.

Pot just hasn't ever really agreed with me, but I think the war on pot or drugs in general is the biggest waste of time and money our government ventures in to. Much like online gambling just tax and regulate it. People that want to do both are going to do it. Why leave all the tax money on the table and at the same time fight a war that will NEVER be won? I drink and it drives me insane to listen to drinkers tout themselves as being morally superior to potheads because what they do is legal. Yeah it's legal, but much more destructive. Europe is so much socially further advanced than we are it makes us looks silly. Why do we always have to be the stupid country? The developed European countries long ago figured out things that have our country up in arms like gay marriage, healthcare, online gambling, being environmentally responsible, and the devil plant MJ. We have more smarts, talent, and influence than any other nation in the world, but we can't figure out how to get past these brain busters other countries have long ago figured out. Rather than spending time fixing real problems our lawmakers debate whether or not people that like to suck the penis should be able to get married or not. Seriously.....we're wasting time on issues like that and pot? I wouldn't want to live in any other country except the United States, but at some point we need to grow up. We have much bigger fish to fry than keeping pot out of the hands of all those violent potheads! Doesn't work for me and I don't do it, but I'm off work for the week and will raise a glass to all the CP stoners tonight. Have fun!

Don't you live downtown? If so, that's why. Move out to the suburbs. We only get accosted by Girl Scouts here.
