Nominate your favorite action movie hero for the Herolympics

Rain Man's Smellympics were a smashing success, with bacon being crowned the winner.

Now we're going to turn it on it's head and find the ultimate movie badass.

Use this thread to nominate ONE action hero from any decade. The only stipulation is that the character be an ACTION hero. We don't want something reeruned like Matthew Broderick's character from Godzilla ending up squaring off against Rambo. Women (Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley) are OK. Please nominate CHARACTERS and not ACTORS. Multiple characters played by the same actor will be permitted. No cartoons.

ONE nomination per person. We'll do 32 or 64, depending on how the entries shape up.

My nomination: JOHN ****ING RAMBO.

East vs. West and North vs. South when they reach the Final Four?

East:
(1) Bourne vs. (8) V
(2) Col James Braddock vs. (7) Wolverine
(3) Dirty Harry vs. (6) Bill Munny
(4) Josey Wales vs. (5) Dutch

North:
(1) Batman vs. (8) Rooster Cogburn
(2) Rocky vs. (7) Bruce Lee
(3) Ellen Ripley vs. (6) Captain Kirk
(4) John Matrix vs. (5) King Leonidas

South:
(1) Rambo vs. (8) Paul Kersey
(2) John McClane vs. (7) Chewbacca
(3) Snake Plissken vs. (6) Martin Riggs
(4) Blade vs. (5) Han Solo

West:
(1) The Terminator vs. (8) Jules
(2) Conan the Barbarian vs. (7) Bryan Mills
(3) James Bond vs. (6) Mad Max
(4) The Man with No Name vs. (5) Indiana Jones

I see a lot of upsets happening--which is a good thing. I'm also looking forward to Ellen Ripley kicking some space ass in the opening round...

29. Jules 54.05
30. Paul Kersey 51.92
31. Rooster Cogburn 41.98

Now, should I do a 1-32 or split them up into quarters, with four 1 seeds, etc? Keep in mind that would destroy the percentage point differential.

ROUND THREE - THE SWEATY SIXTEEN (no homo)

1. The Terminator
2. Bruce Lee
3. Batman

4. Rambo
5. John McClane
6. James Bond
7. Jason Bourne
8. John Matrix
9. Dutch
10. Captain Kirk
11. Josey Wales
12. Indiana Jones
13. Wolverine
14. Col. James Braddock
15. Martin Riggs
16. Bryan Mills

Commentary: I think this is a solid group. You can't argue with Batman, Rambo, McClane, Lee, Riggs, Bond, Indy or Dutch. That's half of the remaining field.

Is it wrong to have three Arnold characters in the top 16? Not anymore wrong than it was to have four Clint Eastwoods in the top 32. Arnold is arguably the greatest action star of the 1980s and the 1990s. He deserves this representation.

I'm still calling Batman as the winner of the whole thing. But if we have a dark horse, you have to like Martin Riggs, who came on strong in the last round.

Nominations I feel got left behind and probably could have won matchups in round two: Ash, Kyle Reese, Robocop.

Biggest frauds: Bryan Mills (benefited from a weak opening heat against Colt Seavers and Remo ****ing Williams, who got the shaft), Josey Wales (Robocop should be here), The Terminator (his heat was decent enough, but Jules was way too easy in the second round).

God, do you realize John Matrix is about to fight Dutch in a few days? I'd see that film. Actually, you might be able to create it from existing footage.

Yeah, that would have been a good one.

And if you like action movies and haven't seen Equilibrium, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY.

I mentioned Preston in another thread.

I'd probably vote for him over anyone else in this poll.

He's a master of hand to hand combat, swordplay, and he's death with a gun. Not to mention he can pistol whip the shit out of a mutha****a.

And he cut Taye Diggs' face off.

Holy crap. I have seen that movie and don't even remember that part. Probably because I thought the movie was crap as a whole.
