And this is not a Cassell hater thread. It was funny hearing Dilfer commenting on how he went through the same thing as a QB. Because he sucked too. But he also won a super bowl. Manage the game and don't turn the ball over. Cassell played good enough to win tonight. Do that all season.

68 yards passing sucks, but I pin a lot of that on the weather and poor playcalling at times. Cassel wasn't good tonight, but he did throw for a TD and no interceptions; that can't hurt. He was a game manager when he needed to be...and hey, that's all he ever may be. Who really knows at this point? I hope Weis can get him to come around.

The Chargers receivers were getting wide open on broken coverages. Other than Moeaki in the end zone, and the bubble screens, a 3 inch cushion was "wide open" by Chiefs receiver standards.

Actually, they had quite a few problems. Take away Berry's full-on retart plays, and SD didn't look that great either.

We'll need a lot more in the future. I won't kill Matt tonight. I don't think he was helped by the coaching staff.

Hard to pass the ball when they don't give you many opportunities.

Score dictates playcalling.

You dont count on special teams TDs all season. But we got one that put us up by 14 points, in a freaking downpour. That changes the game. You dont have to be super aggressive with the playcalling when you get a gift 7 dropped in your lap like that.

Why sit back there and chunk the ball over and over in the pouring rain with a 14 point lead? Its senseless. The D was playing solid, and the Chargers couldnt get out of their own way.

If the game was tighter, I think you wouldve seen Weiss open up the playcalling a bit more to get more points, but in this case, it looks to me like he called the right game to get the W.

Dilfer didnt like the playcalls, some fans didnt like the playcalls, but hey. 14 point lead in the pouring rain, you dont have to get crazy. The Chargers didnt do anything to force the issue. They remained down by 2 scores for a large part of the game.

Trent Dilfer is hardly anyone who should be commentating with an "expert" opinion. If it wasnt for that Ravens D, he wouldnt even have that job he has right now. Pissing and moaning about the Chiefs playcalling.... Ohhh, Im Matt Cassel now, and I havent thrown the football in 45 minutes and now Im being asked on 3rd and 9 to make a throw against the San Diego Chargers.

Hes getting paid 60 million dollars, Trent. He better be able to throw the goddamn football whenever he's needed to. Its a torrential downpour and they had a 2 score lead, and much like you Trent Dilfer, he doesnt have much pocket presence or real throwing ability outside of 10 yards. I doubt you see much gunslinging out of Matt Cassel when the team is up 2 scores. Ever.

Ill take 68 yards and a W, over 300 plus with 3+ WTF interceptions and a loss any day. It wasnt very exciting, barring a few big plays but they got the W.

I don't care what anyone says, there is no such thing as an ugly win. And if there were I would take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of my life.

I love the win, ugly or not, but when the Chargers are literally 3 or 4 yards from taking the game to overtime, it's hard to laud the decision to be conservative, if there was such a decision. The credit there goes to the defense, completely, because even if they were being conservative in a martyball way, the offense simply wasn't executing, whether they were running it or passing it. 9 first downs and less than 50 total plays is nothing to applaud, no matter how you slice it. They have some things they need to work out...

The decision to run the ball on 3rd and 4 on our last posession was what confused me. Were we scared to let Cassel throw the ball? Fearful that the O-line would allow a sack and possible turnover? Or did we think we could actually run a play they pretty much shut down all game?

Yeah, it wasnt fair how the rain would stop and the wind would settle down when Rivers was on the field.

Its the only way that Rivers managed to get 300 yards through the air.

Regarding playcalling: Im sure there was some sort of game-long miscommunication or radio malfunction. Im sure Weis trusts Cassell fully and wouldn't call a game like that on purpose due to any sort of trust issues.

You guys are solid!

We need to get off Cassells back, hes still on pace to pass for more than 1000 yards and everyone knows that having a 1000 yard season means you are doing good.

On a serious note, the crowd was great tonight as was the special teams-return game, but the QB? Doesn't Croyle or even Thigpen manage at least 150 yards tonight in a starting role?

Not really. We won despite our QB tonight. Completely.

You can blame it on whatever, but the truth is that one QB managed to throw for 298 yds despite the conditions. The other... 68 yds.

We may have won despite our QB but we still won, unlike the Jets, who I was referring to.
