Jaguars LB will be on a payment plan for his $20,000 fine

**** Gooddell. This guy makes ~$97,000 BEFORE taxes IF he stays on the practice squad for 16 weeks. And the league takes $20,000 MORE off the top of that?

What if he's cut after a couple weeks and no one picks him up? He's a freaking undrafted free agent. What a load of shit.

Quote:
Making the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad could end up costing Mike Lockley $20,000.

During the preseason, the linebacker was assessed a $20,000 fine for an illegal hit on a New England Patriots receiver. That debt was wiped away when he was cut from the team's roster at the end of the preseason. If he had remained out of football, Lockley wouldn't have had to pay. Not an NFL player? No NFL fine.

When he was re-signed to the practice squad this week, the fine was reinstated. That would be a hefty amount of money no matter a player's salary. But as a member of the practice squad, Lockley will make $5,700 per week, far less than the amount he owes the NFL.

According to league spokesman Greg Aiello, players like Lockley are put on a payment plan to satisfy their debts. In Lockley's case, once he gets his first paycheck, he'd pay $2,500 per week for eight weeks to make good with the NFL.

Because the amount of the fine is more than 25 percent of his weekly check, Lockley can lodge an appeal. If I were him, I wouldn't hold my breath on getting that fine changed. The NFL doesn't exactly champion the cause of the little guy.

Okay, lets be realistic. The 2500 will come out before taxes. He is still making 3200.00 per week plus NFL beneifts.

There are a ton of guys that would trade places with him.

I have to work 60 hours a week to earn $3200.00. He gets to work out and practice football.

I will try to hold back my tears.

90%+ of the time, when you hit dirty, you made a conscience choice to do so.

I wonder if the NFL would sue the kid if he has an outstanding debt by not playing enough to cover the payments.
Wtf? How do you figure this?

This guy's JOB is football. He has 17 weeks a year where he's earning a regular paycheck....if he's lucky.

This is total garbage. A freaking UDFA.
Then maybe he needs a job for part of the other 35 weeks of the year if life is that rough. Maybe he could use that degree from FAU.....**** him

I'd say of all the fines Goodell has handed out for "Malicious Intent" "defenseless receivers" and "Unnecessary roughness," 90 percent of them were clearly unintentional. For every Albert Hayneswroth stepping on some guys head theres 9 other textbook hits that were perfectly legal 10-12 years ago.

Leading with the helmet and launching himself into the player. Pretty clearly a penalty (under modern rules anyway), and pretty clearly fine-able (in the modern system).

Hard to get excited about it. And I don't think $20K is ridiculous. If he's elevated to the roster at any time his salary will increase dramatically.

Oh, and let's say there's no fine or the fine was very low (in consideration of the Practice Squadders low pay). That's basically like the Commissioner saying that marginal guys fighting for roster spots should feel free to take kill shots.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what Goodell wants to do.

It's a good thing he didn't hit Brady or Goodell would have to go to the rules committee and institute a new rule in 2012 that you can't touch QB's in preseason games.

You obviously didn't see the Pats/Lions game. The Lions' defense were only huddling up to determine which spiked dildo they should insert with extreme prejudice in Brady's rectum on the next play. It wasn't good, and it wasn't penalized...

The guy is making $77,000 then, playing a children's game. I am sure he would tell you he's blessed and happy to be there. He is.
