Except in basketball that would lead to shitty teams playing for the championship game. Nobody wants that.

I want to see the best vs. the best, and the current playoff format accomplishes that just fine.

Majority of their TV money comes from the playoffs. Nobody watches regular season games.

I think the owners will buckle before the players. Reason is that a majority of these players can go to Europe or Asia and play for decent money. The owners might have lots of money, but a majority of these teams were bought on loans and whatnot so they probably still owe money. The owners can only hold out for so long.

And alot of their wealth is tied to their teams. Rarely does any owner buy a pro sports team outright, usually they get loans to buy the team. Not saying the owners are close to the bread lines, but they are probably hurting more than you think. A majority of the players can go overseas and make decent money. The owners are still stuck with the teams that are costing more than they are making since they are generating no revenue right now.
