Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah

This might turn out to be a simple case of bad luck for the Chiefs. They're a year too late to cash in on the Andrew Luck/Robert Griffin III bonanza, and there doesn't appear to be a 2013 quarterback prospect worthy of the No. 1 overall pick. I would have to think West Virginia's Geno Smith would be the choice over USC's Matt Barkley if the Chiefs go that direction, but at this point I think they go elsewhere. Kansas City already has spent first-round picks on the likes of Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe, but needs a defensive tackle who can hold ground while also providing more pass-rush ability. Lotulelei will never be an elite pass-rusher, but he is strong against the run and has the quickness and power to collapse the pocket. He could become a mainstay in the middle and be good for five to seven sacks per year.

Yes it is conceivable that even a new GM wouldn’t take a QB with the pick. Pioli didn’t in 2009 and we needed one then too.

Pioli addressed the QB situation before the 2009 draft, it just didn't work out.

That was the #3 pick, not the #1 pick.

If we would have had the #1 pick in 2009, Matthew Stafford would be our QB right now.

There is nobody to trade for like 2009. In 2009, getting Cassel was a big deal, and we got him for a steal. That move and the contract that followed was a joke. There isn't a "Matt Cassel" out there this year. Where is the backup who is lighting the world on fire that would command a trade. Frankly if they want to sign Alex Smith to a two year deal I'm fine with that so long as we drafted a QB in the 1st round. Like it or not, this team needs multiple QBs.

And if we were not to draft a QB (which would be stupid IMO), I'd rather draft a CB or DE instead of a ILB, which isn't a big need. We can upgrade ILB in FA or in the middle of the draft.

There's isn't a CB or DE really worth the #1 overall pick either. MAYBE Damontre Moore at DE or Milliner at CB but that's about it.

Calm down. Don't be mad at Mcshay... all he is doing is looking at the previous Chiefs drafts and mocking what he sees is a pattern, which is passing on QB's and picking up Dline. I wouldn't be anymore surprised of it was an LSU player.
Take your frustration out on the reerun making the draft picks, not mocking them.
