I'm looking to join a CrossFit box in Johnson County.

If you CrossFit, would you care to share your experience with any of the local boxes?

Thoughts on coaching, style, class size, or availability would be appreciated.

I have a couple friends currently in it. They love it very much.

I hate it because I always have to hear about their daily burpees or thrusters.

One of my wife's co-workers and his wife help run a local crossfit here. They seem to love it.

It's a running joke at my office. I don't talk about it much here because most of the people don't work out AT ALL. They all tell me about their annoying friends who do talk about it, though. This conversation happens a lot:

Me: Holy shit! I am so sore.

Someone else: Fine. I'll bite. Tell me about your stupid workout.

That's usually as far as it goes. I rarely actually tell them about the workouts. Fatties hate hearing about workouts. My guess is that it makes them feel shitty about themselves... and that makes them eat... and that makes them fat... and that makes them gross.

All the lingo is what annoys me about it. Why do people have to make up their own nomenclature when there are already perfectly good words available for use?

Does crossfit box = crossfit gym?

i already knew that, i was just being snarky. one of my very good friends owns/runs the "box" out here in lee's summit. he's been trying to get me to come in for a "wod" for months.

The douchey ones are usually the loud ones who get all of the attention. Not everyone is that way. Most of the people at my gym are really cool. Don't let the idiots deter you.

I hear more of those stories from my friend that owns the place. He's a good dude and puts a lot of his politics/personality aside to make his athletes feel welcome. He's told me in the past that Crossfit brings in a lot of characters.
