I sometimes wonder if there isn't a chicken and egg thing going on with obnoxious opinions and comedians.
I mean their livelihood depends on finding new things to say that makes people laugh, so they're constantly in their heads, trying to come up with angles and make connections that point out absurdity or irony. And a lot of humor involves suspending critical thinking for a moment and enjoying the effort to entertain. I mean is there much difference between pretending that airline food is the worst food on earth when it's actually just mildly mediocre, and pretending that this or that politician or political opinion is the ****ing holocaust when it's actually just a difference of opinion? Much the same way that engineers and chess masters spend their lives solving concrete problems, and then turn into relatively literalist right wingers.
