Doug Pederson interviews for Eagles' head coaching job

The Eagles' interviewed a fifth head coaching candidate on Sunday.

This time, Doug Pederson was up. The Eagles' brass of Jeff Lurie, Howie Roseman and Don Smolenski were in Kansas City early Sunday morning to interview the Chiefs' offensive coordinator, according to CSN's Derrick Gunn. The Eagles confirmed the interview on Sunday.

So far, the team has interviewed Duce Staley, Pat Shurmur, Adam Gase, Ben McAdoo and now Pederson. Gase became the Dolphins' head coach on Saturday, so cross him off the list.

The Eagles will interview former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin on Monday, CSNPhilly's Reuben Frank confirmed, and are reportedly going to interview Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.

Pederson, 47, has plenty of ties with the Eagles and Philadelphia. Owner Lurie stressed he wanted a coach that understood the city and its fans.

Pederson was the Eagles' QBs coach in 2011 and 2012 before he joined Andy Reid in Kansas City as the offensive coordinator. Pederson played in the NFL from 1996-2004 and for the Eagles in 1999.

The last former Eagle to become the team's head coach was Marion Campbell, who played from 1956-61 and coached from 1983-85.

Because the Chiefs won their first-round matchup, the Eagles were permitted to interview Pederson but had to travel to him. If the Chiefs keep winning, the next time they'll be able to follow up with him is after the conference championship games. No coordinator candidate can be officially hired until his team has been eliminated from the playoffs.
