If he scores the touchdown, the 49ers get the ball. Sure, their chances of winning are low from 11 points down with one minute left and two timeouts but they are higher than the chances of messing up a kneel down. If they get a field goal first then you have to sit through the sweatiest onside kick of your life.

We couldn't have run the clock out any more than we did when we got the ball back at the end. So that leaves us kicking a field goal and only leading by 7 and kicking the ball back to them. That is much more scary than giving them the ball back down by 11,
