Rivers could look like a HOF QB for 3 quarters and had an uncanny way of unraveling in the clutch. Rivers really was Marty like in his regular season dominance and was even a stout match-up against Peyton Manning (5-8 in his career, 2-0 in the playoffs), but despite Rivers and the Chargers always having massive pre-season expectations, they never seemed to live up to their potential. Failing in the clutch is an overused narrative in sports, but it followed Rivers throughout his career and he always seemed to unravel at the worst times. At the moment, Herbert is waiting to step out of that shadow.

After our AFCCG against the Patriots, a lot of us agreed we had shaken off the "Because we are the Chiefs" narrative and that Mahomes was going to break our curse -- but no other fanbase agreed until Mahomes finally led us through SB54. Chargers fans are already saying that Herbert has broken them of where they were in the past, but I'm waiting to see that on field. I think Herbert and Young Sheldon are likely to be stout regular season foes, but until they put it together over an entire regular season, they just feel a lot like the prime Rivers Chargers to me. Massive expectations going into the season, but can't make that translate into consistent dominance.

I agree with you that Herbert has the potential to put the team on his shoulders get them a Lombardi (and I don't know if Rivers did). They better hope they're right in trusting Tom Telesco at GM. He is entering his 10th season and has 2(?) playoff wins to show for it. He has 10 draft picks, a whole lot of cap space and Herbert's rookie contract going into next season. He has a prime chance to load up, fix the team's issues 2019 KC style, and become an elite force for the next 3 seasons. This is Telesco's time to deliver. But if he squanders this chance, that would be the ultimate Chargers thing ever.
That's thing about Telesco. How many drafts has he knocked out of the park now? Hell, I'm not even talking about stupid media guys crowning the Chargers' asses too soon. I'll admit to looking at their draft classes each year and going, "Dang... they really did a good job!"

How many ****ing drafts does it take to hit a home run on before you stop being a meddling .500 clown ass team every year? Where is the issue?

We're gonna blame the head coach for every one of those missed playoffs seasons?
