OT in the first round?
I've seen the endless trade up scenarios for an EDGE or WR but none proposing a move to 11 or earlier for an OT if one of the top 3 OT's fell farther than expected.
It might initially seem absurd to think the Chiefs would do this but consider the following: 1. Orlando Brown Jr., as of right now, is set to be a free agent in 2023. 2. Right tackle is a need.....a lesser one than those on the defensive side but a need nonetheless. Now, let's say any one of Neal, Ekwonu or Cross falls beyond the 9th pick and the Chiefs maneuver up to take him. Would you have a problem with that? At best, you've got some newfound leverage in OBJ's contract talks and insurance in case they stall or go south. At worst you've secured the right tackle spot and completely solidfied security of your half-billion-dollar QB for the foreseeable future against a division loading up on pass rushers. Additionally, the Chiefs can still add a quality EDGE and WR or two later in the draft, especially on Day 2. Mind you, this isn't to say the Chiefs should or will do this. It's simply to throw another possibility out there - one that I personally haven't seen anywhere - and get you guys' thoughts on it. |
