The Early Years Tournament: Round 1, Heat 29.
We have a couple of 30-point divisional games in this heat. What do you like?
2022 - Week 5 - W 30-29 over LVR https://www.pro-football-reference.c...2210100kan.htm Chiefs 3-1 / Raiders 1-3 The stars of this game? Well, of course they were Matthew Wright, Darius Harris, and Travis Kelce. Wright (rental kicker) kicked a 59 yard field goal as the clock hit halftime, and also three extra points (though also missing a shorter FG). Harris was our leading sacker (with 1.0) and also our leading tackler. And Kelce went all Ernie Nevers with four touchdowns. It would be safe to assume that Kelce went off for a bunch of yards, but that assumption will be wrong. Kelce had 7 receptions for 25 yards and 4 TDs in a very unusual stat sheet. Our leading yardage people were MVS (90 yards), Hardman (80), and McKinnon (72). Mahomes had a solid 292 yards with 4 TDs and 0 Ints. Davante Adams had 100+ yards and also got a DPI flag every time he didn't catch one, and Josh Jacobs had 150+ rushing. We were actually down 20-10 at halftime before we changed the game plan to start throwing 3 yard touchdowns to Kelce. At the 3:35 mark, you'll see what may be the best run of McKinnon's career, where he broke three solid tackle attempts and it took three other guys to finally get him down. Right after that at 4:00, you'll see an incredible Mahomes pass to MVS under pressure. This is also the game where Chris Jones made a beautiful sack and strip on the Raiders QB (Carr), but bad refereeing stole the sack and the turnover since the refs didn't notice that Jones had the ball when he went down. Jones (and I think Justin Reid) also led a critical two-point play stop after the Raiders scored to come within one point. The Raiders got one last scary drive, but it ended when two Raiders receivers plowed into each other when running the route, which made the world laugh. (And then I think Adams shoved our camera guy if I remember right.) 2018 - Week 8 - W 30-23 over DEN https://www.pro-football-reference.c...1810280kan.htm Chiefs 6-1 / broncos 3-4 Turn back the clocks on this game and see if you remember these players. The running game got shut down with only 49 yards as Kareem Hunt was bottled up, though his touchdown run at 5:50 of the highlights is a beautiful hurdle and drag play. But our young quarterback dazzled the enemy with 303 yards and 4 TDs, versus only 1 Int. Our leading yardage guy was Sammy Watkins, and our defense chased the Denver quarterback (Chase Keesum or whatever drunk elway called him) all over the field, giving us (wait for it) 3 sacks by Dee Ford, 1 by Chris Jones, and 1 by (wait for it) Breeland Speaks. Dee forced two fumbles on his sacks, though one may have been aided by Reggie Ragland absolutely plastering Keesum as he futilely tried to escape, and one of those fumbles ended with a patented Breeland Speaks recovery and wave. This game is probably your best chance to watch Speaks repeatedly running in space, by the way, and also a long chase by Allen Bailey at one point. And speaking of running in space, Anthony Sherman was one desperation dive away from returning a late onside kick attempt for a touchdown. This game was not nearly as close as the score would imply, as the Chiefs easily controlled the game. |
