Student Slashes Throat of Penn Valley CC Dean

Fifteen minutes before Gov. Jay Nixon was to address students at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley this morning, a student wearing a bullet-proof vest slashed the throat of a college dean, police said.

Nixon’s speech was canceled, a spokesman said.

The dean reportedly survived the 9:45 a.m. attack at the Humanities Building on the campus at 3210 Southwest Trafficway. Nixon’s speech was planned for 10 a.m.

Nixon had planned to discuss details of $57.6 million in funds awarded to expand access to high-speed broadband, including at seven community colleges.
