The fourth preseason game....
I just watched the game this morning after following it on the game thread Thursday night some observations/ thoughts:
1. Many of you need to seriously get over your hatred for Cassel. Reading the game thread painted an incredibly bad picture of the QB, even saying that Colquitt's rainbow duck pass was better than anything Cassel does. He is an average QB with some faults, but Stanzi and Palko are not options. Live with it. Can the position be upgraded? Yes. CB is maybe the only position on this team that can't stand an upgrade. Leading us to.... 2. So what if Green Bay's subs played well. They are arguably the deepest team in the league. They won the frigging SB with 15 players on IR. KC is maybe the thinnest team in the league. Edwards and Peterson left with the chest bare and those players on the team that had talent (Hali, DJ, Charles, Bowe, Flowers) were either coddled into mediocrity or used in a way that didn't maximize their talent. Couple that with a horrendous first draft by Pioli, and it not hard to understand that the depth on this team is a LONG way off from where a contender should be. KC's first tier is good. Not great, but good. A relatively injury free season can get them to 10-6ish. They still have a long way to go. 3. I can somewhat see Haley's plan for the preseason. Get them in condition then ramp up for the season in the last 2 preseason games. So it isn't like what other teams are doing. So what. Turnovers in preseason happen when players aren't used to contact. Hopefully a couple games is all that it will take to get them reaclimated to the action. For the most part, the injury bug hasn't hit this team. Moeaki has been injury prone. If you look at the play in which he hurt is knee, it isn't obvious how he even got hurt, he didn't even twist it. Given that, it may have been only a matter of time before he got hurt again and had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not Haley was playing him. I worry more about the penalties and procedures on the sideline that take away precious timeouts. The fourth preseason game should not have these problems to the extent the Chiefs have them. Ultimately, those of you who think this team is only a QB away from contending for a Super Bowl are completely nuts. This season isn't written yet and hopefully some rookies and 2nd year guys will continued to develop and build the kind of depth that is needed to withstand a full season and truly compete for a title. |
