We did it! Thanks to your incredible support and our organizational partners around the world, we were able to break ground on a new school that will provide education to deserving students in a rural community in Nepal. In addition to providing educational access, the school will serve first hub of clean, running water for the community.
We are now turning our sights to traveling to the school next summer to build a fourth classroom (this will allow the school to accept and educate every available child in the community) and teach a group of students for a month next summer. Any more of your support would be incredibly appreciated.
Hey, everybody! My charitable organization is making a big push for New Years, and it would be great if you were involved! You have all done so much for us in the past, and your support continues to mean so much to our organization.
Update 10/14/12: We are now officially partnered with a non-profit known as the Foundation for Leadership and Learning and can now officially accept donations, we also have established our own store on Cafepress. (And are open for requests/suggestions )
We also just completed a six minute documentary that covers the struggles and success of the first phase of Open World while laying the foundation for the second phase of our mission.
Original Post 12/19/11:
Spoiler!
Hey, Chiefsplanet! As some of you are aware, I helped begin a mission called "The Open World Project" over the last year. I am thrilled to inform everyone that the project was successful in sending two laptops and internet access to a rural school in Nepal, (known as the SAV School) and have skyped the classroom on several occasions over the past year.
However, while we were successful in that ambition, we were dismayed to learn that due to a complication with a leasing agreement, the school we were working with lost half of their buildings and some of the students that previously attended the school.
After a wide array of conversations, we decided to launch a second phase to the project that would bring entirely new buildings to the school, but unlike before, these buildings will be in sole possession of the SAV school. We are in the beginning phases of this mission, but we are hoping to drop the "project" aspect of our cause and become a fully fledged organization known as "Open World."
We are currently in the process of establishing our own 501C3, so we are unable to accept donations at this time. All we are searching for are new supporters for our cause, any new followers on Facebook or Twitter would be absolutely incredible.
Project Announcement (Made in Another Thread) 1/12/11:
Spoiler!
As many of you already know, I am currently a senior at a high school in central Kansas. As explained in the video, My friend Jake and I started a project attempting to raise enough money to bring two laptops and internet to a school in Nepal. This original goal of the project was to raise enough money to bring a library to this school, but after having a multitude of difficulties launching that project, Jake and I turned our focus to bringing internet to this school. Our hope is that we will soon be able to share skype conversations with the students in this classroom, and that this will open the school to an innumerable amount of possibilities.
I'd also like to shout out to one of our sponsors who brought us a good amount of initial support, you can find them at this page. http://the-gathering.net/
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this!
