People exaggerate how bad this defense would be under the right coaching.

The #1 problem on defense by a mile is coaching, not coordinating defenses. This is a competitive defense. It has potential to be a terrific defense under a good head coach and a 1-gap 3-4 principle. Which is one of the reasons I still love the idea of Horton or Gus Bradley. Both would install a 1-gap 3-4 that I believe we would very quickly transition into.
