Reid fired
Chiefs Fire Andy Reid After 0-2 Preseason Start

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs parted ways with Andy Reid today. The firing comes just more than seven months after he was hired to be the team’s head coach and after just two exhibition games.
“Andy was hired to make us a winner,” said Chiefs president Mark Donovan. “We weren’t looking to rebuild here for a few years. We feel we have the talent to win now. We made that very clear to Andy and he understood that an 0-2 record simply wasn’t in line with our goals.”
In addition to having a young core on both sides of the ball, the Chiefs acquired former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith in the offseason. Yet they followed a 17-13 preseason opening loss to the Saints with another disappointing 15-13 defeat to San Francisco. Tough preseason games against marquee NFL opponents in the Steelers and Packers loom on the exhibition horizon.
Reid said he was disappointed to not be given more time, but knew he was in trouble when his third-string defense let San Francisco’s 4th string quarterback B.J. Daniels put up a late, and ultimately game-winning score, in Friday night’s game.
“This is the nature of the business now,” said Reid. “It’s a win-now league. The Eagles fired me after one losing season despite all the wins I had there over the years. Why do the Chiefs owe me any more? I don’t even have a history of success here to fall back on.”
Chiefs players also admit they saw the move coming, but wish nothing but the best for their former head coach.
“I wish he had been given at least until the first or second regular season game to see if we could turn this around,” said safety Eric Berry. “I’m really going to miss Taco Tuesdays and Fast Food Fridays.”
