Browns pushing to set up interview with Josh McDaniels

As soon as the Browns had an opening, people began linking Josh McDaniels with the job, based on his relationship with Browns General Manager Mike Lombardi.

Now there’s some fire to go with that smoke, as Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports the Browns are “pushing” to interview the Patriots offensive coordinator for their vacant head coaching job.

Nothing has been set up at this point, just as there are no rumors yet about a Ryan Mallett package deal (though that’s probably inevitable, as the Tim Tebow reports will be).

The Browns have also asked permission to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, after firing a young coordinator one year into the job (Rob Chudzinski).

I can help with this. Michael Lombardi, the minute he walked threw the gates to hell, aka Berea was on the phone with the Pats trying to get Mallett. They wouldn't trade him for less than a second, and the browns didn't have one.

Now, they have Hoyer who McDaniels also knows and likes. So I doubt very much they bring in Mallett.

They are interviewing Quinn tomorrow.

Also are going to interview Todd Bowles from the Cards.

But, expect McDaniels to be the head coach next week.

I've always had a soft spot for the Browns. Recently they punked the Colts on that Richardson trade.

They still got hosed by wasting a top draft pick for him, but they also ****ed the Colts pretty good.

Sadly, that's one of your biggest problems. Where's the incentive for the Browns to try to win if fans will gladly spend money on tickets and pack the stadium for a losing product?

The Chargers' blackouts really picked up near the end of the Norv/AJ era when fans finally got fed up with the mediocrity and the franchise's hostile attitude towards the fanbase. Spanos finally got the message and fired those clowns because the alternative was losing even more money. Unless you're lucky enough to have an owner that loves the sport and cares about winning, the fans can only send a message by voting with their wallets and not showing up.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to be honest. McDaniels has to be the leader in the clubhouse... just because it's the Patriots thing to do.

Remember there were rumors everywhere that Pioli wanted to do the same thing. Who knows how accurate they were, but it makes complete sense. They probably don't even want to look at outsiders unless they have to.
