Browns want J. McD and Mallet from Pats?

The article below implies that both McDaniels and Mallet could be bound for Cleveland. I wonder what BB would get in return for Mallet?

Browns pushing to set up interview with Josh McDaniels

Posted by Darin Gantt on December 30, 2013, 3:52 PM EST

As soon as the Browns had an opening, people began linking Josh McDaniels with the job, based on his relationship with Browns General Manager Mike Lombardi.

Now there’s some fire to go with that smoke, as Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports the Browns are “pushing” to interview the Patriots offensive coordinator for their vacant head coaching job.

Nothing has been set up at this point, just as there are no rumors yet about a Ryan Mallett package deal (though that’s probably inevitable, as the Tim Tebow reports will be).

The Browns have also asked permission to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, after firing a young coordinator one year into the job (Rob Chudzinski).

If Horton's available and the defense under-performs in our playoff game, it would be surprising if Horton isn't our DC after.

Trade them both to Belichick for Mallett.

I don't really see Andy Reid firing any coaches after turning a 2 win team around like he did this season.

The Browns are the anti Chiefs. They need to trade for a QB like Mallet because all those 1st round QB's have got them nothing.

Clearly there is only 1 way to build a team.

So, here's what they'll do...

They'll bring in Josh to coach the team. In FA, he'll trade their 2nd R1 pick (the one from IND, likely in the mid 20s) to NEP for Mallet.

They'll also try to sign FA RB Knowshon Moreno because his contract is up and he's had a stellar year. Moreno was Josh's first round draft pick in 2009 in his first year with Denver, so he likes him and needs a veteran that has appeared to mature a bit. My guess is they'll also make a play for Decker to rejoin Josh, but Denver will make a strong push to retain him.

They'll drag in a few other players via FA at WR/TE - not sure what names are out there, and maybe they trade down from their #4 overall pick in R1 to pick up additional picks.

Then, they hire someone like a Wade Phillips to take care of the defense - maybe Josh has his own guy, but a move for someone like Wade could be wise.

Just throwing that out there...

Well, they're a franchise with a great fan base - similar to KC. I don't know many Brown's fans, maybe a half dozen... but they've had their share of misery. It's time for them to experience something good too. I don't know that it's Josh McDaniels though....

They are definately in a good position with the extra draft picks. The last time they used two first rounders they bombed. That team should be further along personnel wise than they are. A good GM could add a couple of solid FA, draft well, and make that team competitive in a short period of time.

Yeah, and firing their HC 11 months in might have been the right thing to do, but hell... that is very Raider-like. You can't get over the hump when you're in constant churn.

So Michael Lombardi wants to bring in Josh McD and a Patriot cast-off at QB?

Moreno instead of Tate? No sarcasm, I just figured Tate was the guy they couldn't live without. I could see Moreno, he would probably be a lot cheaper.
