Browns want J. McD and Mallet from Pats?

The article below implies that both McDaniels and Mallet could be bound for Cleveland. I wonder what BB would get in return for Mallet?

Browns pushing to set up interview with Josh McDaniels

Posted by Darin Gantt on December 30, 2013, 3:52 PM EST

As soon as the Browns had an opening, people began linking Josh McDaniels with the job, based on his relationship with Browns General Manager Mike Lombardi.

Now there’s some fire to go with that smoke, as Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports the Browns are “pushing” to interview the Patriots offensive coordinator for their vacant head coaching job.

Nothing has been set up at this point, just as there are no rumors yet about a Ryan Mallett package deal (though that’s probably inevitable, as the Tim Tebow reports will be).

The Browns have also asked permission to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, after firing a young coordinator one year into the job (Rob Chudzinski).

Mike Lombardi is a big fan of Belichick's. Not sure if they have background working together.

All that said, I think McDaniels is probably a good coaching candidate in about 2017. Seems to me that he needs to mature a bit more before he is given another shot at being HC.

I'm also shocked that it's the Browns, given that they already had a disastrous experience with Romeo Crennel. For them to try another Pats coordinator, and one who failed so miserably so recently, seems...unwise. Their fan base will have their long knives out from day one.

And I will let you in on a little secret.

The browns had the worst nickel corner in the league in Chris Owens.

They torched him. And Craig Robertson played like Crap for most of the year.

That's why the team struggled on 3rd down. That and the offense giving the ball up over and over and over.

This had nothing to do with Horton.

Lombardi was the GM in 1995 when Bellichick was the Coach in Cleveland.

They have always been close. This is why.

Ah, right.

The real issue here is that Belichick is unique. You can't really just get a piece of him by taking someone that works with him in that organization. You'd think after the multiple failures that folks would be more accepting of that fact. We'll see I guess. McDaniel's is too young for his book to be completely written after one failure.

Wow an excellent OC now? I'm thinking Brady has a little something to do with this. In fact in my opinion Brady has made a bunch of people in the Patriots coaching staff millionaires. They owe him their asses, including Belicheat.

Hmmm.. Cant argue with it. No one, not Weiss, not McDaniels, have had anywhere near the success outside of NE.

The only one who comes close, is Bill O'Brien.

Fair points.

Or in other words...the Browns told him they were going to pass on him so McDaniels does what any 8 year old would do, "Well I didn't want to ____ anway!"
