I can't take solace in winning via cheating. It doesn't feel legitimate. And believe me, I've played soccer all my life, so I've won more than a couple of games because one of our strikers took a dive. Still doesn't sit well with me. I don't feel like we really won those games.

It's illegal to throw the elbow regardless if it connects or not. Our fans need to learn the rules.

You're gonna have to show me that rule and exactly what "throwing an elbow" entails.

You can make a basketball move as long as you are not intending to use the elbows to clear space. In other words, he can make that move if the intent of the move is to facilitate another basketball move (i.e., a drive to the left side of the player). Notice how the ball is moving in a circle out away from the player where the elbows are.

What you cannot do is use your elbows to clear space from the defender. So, if he was not intending to make a basketball move (i.e., just stand his spot), then its a foul considered to be "throwing an elbow". The basketball would be closer to the body and the elbows would protrude out.

Of course, if the elbow connects on either situation, its a foul regardless.

Not if it's a basketball move. You have to be able to clear the ball across your body, which is what Selden did. We just gonna make guys go around the back to shift the ball now? Can't do it across your body cuz poor Marcus Smart might get some chin music? Don't give me that bullshit.

Selden was clearing space. He made no move. It was a clear violation by Selden. The refs agreed and even checked the monitor. Our fans need to give this one up.

Then why doesn't the defensive player get right up on the offensive player every time?

Christ, shut the **** up.

Elbow rules

In men’s and women’s basketball, panel members approved a tweak to the rules regarding elbow contact above the shoulders.

In these circumstances, officials may use the monitor to determine if a flagrant foul has been committed.

Officials will determine if the contact was a flagrant 2, flagrant 1, common foul or no call. When the officials use the monitor to review a situation that is not called on the floor, the only options are flagrant 2, flagrant 1 or no foul.

In a flagrant 1 situation, the player who was struck is awarded two free throws and his or her team gets possession of the ball.

In a flagrant 2 situation, free throws and possession are awarded and the player who threw the elbow is ejected from the game.

The men’s and women’s basketball committees felt the original intent of the elbow rules have caused too many flagrant fouls being called when they weren’t appropriate. The intent of the elbow rule has always been to protect players and eliminate the rip move where players were making contact above the shoulders of defenders.

By allowing officials to review these plays on the monitor, both committees believe it will eliminate the non-deserving flagrant 1 fouls in particular.

They cant overturn the call on the monitor, they can only determine if it was a flagrant 1 or 2, and they called it a 1.

He made no move because the ref blew the whistle reacting to Smart's reaction. Selden didn't lean towards him or lead with his elbows. I don't care. Its not important to me that Selden be vindicated, its over with. But, your interpretation is incorrect, the ref has lattitude in these situations where he didn't used to.

This is why they have monitors to review stuff like this. There is nothing to call here. same thing happened in the Kentucky game in there was no call yesterday. So its basically a dramatic flop.
