WSU's 1 thru 5 is as good as any top 25 team in the Country. After that, their bench is WEAK. The reason people challenge WSU's schedule is because they rarely have to get into that bench for anything meaningful. Teams aren't beating on you like they would in the B12, B10, PAC. Last season, you had Hall, Williams and Van Vleet coming off the bench. That's pretty damned potent. This season you have Wiggins, Wessel and Lufile/Coleby - not potent. After you slaughter the remainder of the Valley awfulness, I think WSU will be struggling to get out of the 2nd round of the NCAA Tourney, depending upon the match-up. There are going to be some fantastic 8-9's in this tourney, that have better depth off the bench than WSU. I pull for WSU since I live here, but a definite reality check is needed.

This year WSU has three bigs that have replaced Hall and WSU doesn't miss Orupke's length because Coleby has great length although he's a couple inches shorter. Early, Baker and Van Vleet are as good a trio as there is in the nation and the other guys do nice work. You can crap on Wessel all you like but he's a big guy (who KU recruited to play Football by the way) and he's capable of playing D and rebounding against a small forward. As for Tekele Cotton... you didn't even mention him and his Defense. If you leave him open he'll drill you on the bounce for a dunk or hit a key three ball even though his overall 3 ball number isn't that great, he hits the ones that matter. WSU goes 8-9 deep against any squad in the country. They can play two of their three bigs at the same time or go small and use Carter at the Five. WSU has played a big Front line in Tennessee this year and out rebounded them. They had no problem with Ohio State's bigs last year either and this team is much more potent all around than last years team. Early Baker Van Vleet Cotton Lufile Coleby Carter Wessel Wiggins You can postulate all you like about the how the tournament will end up but you don't know and neither do I. KU and KSU have not shown the full package at all this year. WSU has been a team hitting on all cylinders since January and while I'd have liked to have had them play Creighton twice the haters would be calling WSU a 5 seed now if they had split with a very good team in Creighton who is leading he Big East last time I checked. They can only play the teams on their schedule and a bunch of other cliches, but big wins mean so much more than any single loss. It's safe to assume the floor of any team is pretty low for a number of reasons, so what a team has to prove is how high the ceiling is for them. Maybe fans would look down on one loss to Creighton or whoever, but the committee would see it as a positive as long as they weren't obliterated, since it factors into SoS and determining that ceiling. They'll get their chance, just like the Chiefs. ![]()

Then again, their administration is the most two-faced pathetic set of liars in the Midwest. The AD is cool though. Eric and I used to hang out back in the day when we both lived in Fairmont Towers.
