WR Emmanuel Sanders signs with Denver - Executives cry foul

Executives crying foul over Emmanuel Sanders deal

Emmanuel Sanders is expected to sign with the Broncos tomorrow, but the process that led him there left the other teams involved fuming and crying foul. One team official claimed Sanders' agent broke "every rule in negotiations."

Agent Steve Weinberg, on behalf of the receiver, accepted a deal with the Chiefs in principle, according to one team source. Weinberg then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Bucs, according to another source involved in the process.

While shopping the Chiefs offer to the Bucs, Weinberg never explained that he had already accepted the terms of Kansas City's offer. Later in the night, Sanders' agent had agreed to terms with the Broncos, which is where he is currently headed. Sanders and Weinberg also rankled the 49ers by agreeing to visit, then blowing it off.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Reached at his home late Saturday, Weinberg declined to comment on the record when informed of the allegations.

The Dallas-based agent was recently reinstated by the NFL Players Association, which had barred and decertified him in 2003 because it had reportedly found he diverted assets to an offshore account during a dispute with a partner and collecting a fee from a client prematurely. Weinberg later filed suit against the NFLPA and its top officials, alleging they illegally took away his certification for eight years, along with past, present and future income of clients.

Weinberg has two clients currently on NFL teams, not including Sanders. He had 42 before he was barred.

While Weinberg broke no laws in accepting a deal, the entire situation infuriated those he dealt with. It is commonly accepted in the league that once two sides agree to a deal -- in writing or in handshake form -- that's the end of the story. Instead, by Weinberg shopping the Chiefs deal and then not informing the Bucs that a deal had been reached showed another side of the business. It is unclear if the Broncos were aware of the previous actions.

"When a man gives you his words and pulls out," one executive said, "then gives another team your word and pulls out, then gives another team his word ... Not proper."

Must have missed it, have we actually signed Sanders yet?

I didn't list Walker as a backup

You added Sanders to that list you made...

and Dressler won't be the guy taking the slot spot by the end of the off season so you can forget about that one.

Sanders is a possible replace for McCluster but we haven't signed him yet therefore there is still a ??? at the position.

Sanders has a screw in each of his feet and was limited by a foot injury the last two months of 2014. He is reportedly looking for something close to the five-year, $31 million, $13 million guaranteed deal Golden Tate received from the Lions, but his injury history should put that kind of money out of reach. Sanders may have to settle for a one or two-year deal. He is our No. 5 remaining free-agent wide receiver.
He's ****ing crazy even without the feet.

Free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders visited the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday, and he is visiting the WR-hungry Kansas City Chiefs today. It was initially reported that Sanders had left Kansas City without a deal San Francisco 49ers and would visit the San Francisco 49ers tomorrow, and it looks like the former report is false (the latter regarding Sanders’s visit with the 49ers is true).

Per a source close to the Kansas City Star’s Terez A. Paylor, Sanders only recently arrived in K.C., but he still has a visit scheduled with the 49ers. Paylor also reports that not only has Sanders only recently started his visit with the Chiefs organization, but he’s also spending the night there, which increases the chances of the WR-needy Chiefs signing him on. Two-day visits usually end up in something, so we’ll see if Sanders is able to make his visit to another top team in the 49ers.

The Chiefs have a bigger need at WR, and they are in a better position to give the productive 26-year-old a bigger contract. Sanders would likely be the Chiefs WR2 if signed (I would still expect them to draft a WR with a high pick), and he caught 67 passes for 740 yards and six touchdowns last season. He’s fast and versatile, as he can line up on the inside or outside and run a variety of routes. Although his hands are spotty and he could be more consistent, Sanders is a quality wideout who still has upside that can be tapped into; he’s be a quality addition for the Chiefs.

Proof that people who give a shit about drops when it comes to WRs are full of shit. There was a post just earlier in this thread claiming how phenomenal Sanders' hands are.

Why would these reports contradict each other?

The bottom line is that ALL ****ING WRS DROP PASSES.

Period.

Fans and reporters will see those drops in games, and for whatever reason, they'll harbor grudges at weird times for those drops.

But every goddamn WR does it. Jerry Rice did it. Calvin Johnson does it. AJ Green does it.

They. All. ****ing. Do. It.

So shut the **** up about dropped passes.

I'm looking at you, Blacktard.

I'd release him if we could. We might even be able to sign him back cheaper or restructure and force him to take a pay cut. We could still give him more than he would make elsewhere but save a bunch of dough.

It would give us a bunch of money.

He's not worth what he got.

We can't trade him with that contract.

I know you probably hate the idea but, Dorsey has got to be pissed about the way he played and then the fact that he got arrested after getting that contract. If he can void that contract, he might just do it.

Yeah, I'm not saying you wrote it.

Whoever the **** Joe Soriano is just made that shit up I imagine based on just one vivid play where Sanders dropped the ball.

The stats from earlier show that Sanders has one of the lowest drop percentages in the league.
