We haven't really used free agency, though?

I'm not going to get too butthurt until we see what happens in the draft. WR in Rd. 1 would forgive a lot for me.

Nope. They won't be enough. n00b WRs can take a little bit to acclimate to the league, and the Chiefs' schedule is going to be unforgiving.

Tough to read the Smith trade now as much more than a directive to put asses in the seats.

you're lucky if you can get anything meaningful out of them in the first two years. I'm not sure everyone realizes just how much of an exception bowe's early success was. We'd be fortunate to get 2/3 of that out of a late first pick now, not to mention a 3rd or later. Course even if we did get that we fickle-ass fans would find some goofy reason to run him out of town in 5 years.

Best chance we probably have left is that someone already on the roster breaks out. No clue who that might be, of course...

He's a possibility, sure.

I still think there's a possibility with Hemingway, too. Being a Michigan homer and all.

But one or the other turning into a player as valuable as DeSean Jackson at this point would be a pretty big surprise, although nothing's impossible.

I probably should add that while I did agree with the original sentiment about the time it takes receivers to develop, I will also acknowledge that this does have the potential to be a really great class of receivers.

BINGO. After the defensive meltdown of the last half of the season to not make a move is unforgivable.

Maybe it's small consolation, but I think the term addition by subtraction, really does apply here. The biggest culprits of the meltdown are all gone.

But, its hard to argue this was a successful FA period, even though I think Walker will be better than Jackson.

Yep, but this should be a complementary move, not the centerpiece.

The irony is that signing Sanders would have taken a decent amount of sting out of things, and getting D. Jackson would have been a HR.

I agree. That was bad. I don't think Sanders had any intention of signing here. Chiefs got used.

One position that I had hoped that the Chiefs would address through free agency is at safety. I liked the re-signing of Husain Abdullah and hopefully Sanders Commings will be able to be a good safety but that position was such a vulnerability, you would think it would have top priority for KC.

In free agency we have had a safety musical chairs game with players going back a forth in the NFL.

The latest switch is Chicago Bear’s safety Major Wright has just signed to reunite with Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers already have Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson so Wright signed a 1 year deal to be a backup.

Adrian Wilson released by the New England Patriots after being injured for the 2013 season.

Safety Patrick Chung returns to New England Patriots from Philadelphia Eagles for 1 year $1MM.

Indianapolis Colts safety Antoine Bethea signs with San Francisco 49ers for 4 year $21MM.

Atlanta Falcons cut Thomas DeCoud and he’s making visits to Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

Texan’s safety Danieal Manning signed 1 year deal with Cincinnati Bengals for 1 year $1.6MM.

CFL Toronto Argonauts safety Marcus Ball signs with New Orleans Saints on 3 year deal.

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark signs with Washington Redskins for 1 year $1MM.

49ers Donte Whitner signs 4 year $28MM deal with Cleveland Browns.

Philadelphia Eagles sign Seattle Seahawks safety Chris Maragos for 3 year $4MM.

Baltimore Ravens James Ihedigbo signs with Detroit Lions for 2 year $3.1MM.

Texans sign Miami Dolphins safety Chris Clemons for 2 year $2.7MM.

Oakland re-signs Usama Young for $2.3MM

KC Chiefs Kendrick Lewis signs with Texans for 1 year $795,000.

Baltimore Ravens sign St. Louis Rams safety Darian Stewart for 1 year 1.3MM.

Cleveland Browns T.J. Ward signs with Denver Broncos for 4 year $22.5MM.

Chicago Bears sign Dallas Cowboys safety Danny McCray for 1 year $790,938 for and re-sign safety Craig Steltz for 1 year $795,000.

Chicago Bears add safeties M.D. Jennings Green Bay Packers 1 year $745,000 and Ryan Mundy New York Giants 2 year $3MM.

Philadelphia Eagles re-sign safety Nate Allen for 1 year $3MM.

Kansas City Chiefs re-sign safety Husain Abdullah for 2 year $2.2MM

Oakland Raiders re-sign safety Charles Woodson for 1 year $3.5MM.

Carolina Panthers signs New Orleans Saints Roman Harper for 2 year $4.5MM.

Taylor Mays re-signs with Cincinnati Bengals for 1 year $795,000.

Kansas City safety Quintin Demps signs with New York Giants for 1 year $1MM.

Safety Jeromy Miles re- signs with Baltimore Ravens for 1 year $795,000.

Brandon Meriweather re-signs with Washington Redskins for 1 year $1MM.

New Orleans Saints safety Malcom Jenkins signs with Philadelphia Eagles for 3 year $16.5MM.

Carolina Panthers safety Mike Mitchell signs with Pittsburgh Steelers for 5 year $25MM.

Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd signs with New Orleans Saints for 6 years $54MM.

Darrell Stuckey re-signs with San Diego Chargers for 4 year $7.6MM.

Miami Dolphins sign Louis Delmas Detroit Lions safety for 1 year $3.5MM.

Will Allen S/CB signs with Pittsburgh Steelers for 1 year $1MM

Steve Gregory contract terminated by New England Patriots. Not much news on him.

New Orleans RFA Safety Rafael Bush signs with Atlanta Falcons. Still waiting to see if New Orleans matches.

I "read" that signing as the fans have spoke Cassel has to go and we have to look at least respectable from here. There was not a QB in the draft worthy so they got the best available QB whether draft or FA in Alex Smith.

He wasn't "available". They traded picks to make him so.
