This sort of thing makes good sense for Dorsey because of how he values measurables. The guy in the article is correct through, it is only as good as how you use it. I think it could be used to augment the evaluation of players in the later rounds, where you could start narrowing the field based on the types of measurables your coaches are looking for to fit their system. For example, if Sutton wants a certain type of player playing DE, you can narrow your field with this sort of thing. This can of course all be done manually as well, but why not automate it and save more time to dig into the players other intangibles as a scout?

It will be interesting to see how the draft goes the next few years under Dorsey. I always give the new regimes a bit of a pass the first year, because they haven't had a chance to get their entire personnel department set. This will be the first year with Ballard in place, and I've heard nothing but good about him. So we will see if that and using tech like this helps at all or not.

I'd be real interested to see how a guy like Russell Wilson or Tom Brady would rate on something like this. If I were running a team, I would create a stats department and have them evaluate tools like this based on previous years drafts and my scouts evaluations from previous years, and see if the results would have been better or not, and keep tweaking until I had a formula that definitively helped my evaluation process...
