VARSITY
V2.0 - ***Official 2014 Training Camp/Preseason Mega-thread***

Version 2.0

Post all of the Training Camp/Pre-season updates, relevant tweets, and general thoughts in this mega-thread.

If something happens to be particularly newsworthy, feel free to start a thread and discuss it there. Don't be a dickbag and "Q" up their thread, unless some idiot posts something like 5 days late.

WHEN POSTING TWEETS - When posting Tweets, instead of just copying the text, you can actually embed the tweet by clicking "...More" (right next to the timestamp of the tweet)-> "Embed Tweet" -> Copy the embed code, then paste that into your CP post. It will make the thread look a lot cleaner and we won't have to keep clicking away from the website to see the content. Thanks in advance.

Colin Kaepernick.

Would he be colin kaepernick without Jim Harbaugh?

I say no, some times you just get put into a PERFECT situation.

That's all im saying.

Logan Thomas, with say Rex Ryan, and the Jets.

I would have ZERO faith in him.

its situation.
a lot of success in this league, is based on situation.

Just my opinion.

some will disagree. Take Clay, or count zarth if you will.

He believes foolishly that a GREAT QB, OVER COMES ALL ODDS.

Now, most know that isn't true. Look at Drew Brees. The year he didn't have Sean Payton, they went 7-9.

there is a reason that the NFL is the most TEAM centric sport.

One player, can make a difference, but he cant over come everything.

Situation. Its a huge part of the game.

have a nice night bud.

Potential means you haven't done shit.

I don't agree. What makes Kapernick great is his god given physical attributes and the scheme they run. it's not his ability to read defenses or anything Harabaugh has taught him. Jim just put him in a position to succeed with the tools he's got.

Logan Thomas, with say Rex Ryan, and the Jets.

I would have ZERO faith in him.

I agree that he has a better shot with Arians but I also don't think Arians gives much of a shit about project players.

its situation.

Brees was great before he went to New Orleans. Marty would have won a Superbowl with him imo. Payton didn't make Drew Brees man. I don't see it that way at all.

there is a reason that the NFL is the most TEAM centric sport.

I agree but I also think the most important attribute for a QB is his ability in clutch situations, big games, and big moments. You know Russell Wilson was supposed to go in the 5th or 6th round. Know why Carroll took him in the the 3rd? Because he had seven 4th quarter comebacks at Wisconsin in one season. It's the most important thing man.

have a nice night bud.
Let's let it play out. I like my odds. Good night dude. It was fun.

Also, while watching Aaron Donald and the Rams earlier, he wasn't quite as effective as he was in week 1. Why is that? They literally double-teamed him on every play. Rookie in his first Pre-Season and he's already seeing the majority of the double teams along that Rams front. I don't blame the other team though, Donald was as unblockable as a DT could be last week.

Not for nothing, Thomas looked really good in Week 1.

Haven't seen him this week, though.

There are what 20 QB's in the NFL that can be called solid at a minimum? And those 20 guys are from ages 25-38 so you might get 1 or 2 guys a year out of a draft class that turn into solid NFL QB's so yeah betting against a QB being a franchise type guy is always the smart bet regardless of skill set.

Think I'm over this Santos kid. For such a "big leg" he has yet to even come close to a touchback on a kick off.

I can't imagine they are telling their kickers to kick it short when Succop is kicking them out of the endzone left and right.

I think it could be a courtesy.

All our preseason opponents want to get work on their special teams too. Coaches talk about that stuff ahead of time.

If the know Santos can boom them, why make him prove it? Whereas Succop needs to prove her can do it consistently, so we give him a chance to prove it.

Not saying that's what is happening, but might be a way to handle the situation that best served all involved.

They straight up said after the first preseason game they instructed the kickers to kick short, I believe to test our own coverage units. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they asked Santos to do the same last night. I was surprised to see Succop kicking long to be honest.
