Way back, parents hated that newfangled Rock and Roll and strongly discouraged all that nasty dancing and hip-shaking. Those kids grew up vowing to be cool when they were parents, but they hated Metal, Rap, etc whatever their kids were in to. Those kids grew up vowing to be cool with whatever music their kids were ever in to, and now they are griping about Video Games.

Now, its definitely possible the team could have been distracted and needed to focus more on their profession, but I see absolutely no difference whatsoever between them playing too many video games, or watching too much TV, or wasting too much time on cards or shooting pool, but those other things don't have the same visceral reaction with the older folks as seeing these young men "screwing around with video games" and "not growing up".

One of the guys I talk to who is "inside" actually indicated to me that this was a real concern/problem earlier in the year. I don't think this is just a "darn kids" moment.

Certain guys were way too involved with this and not involved enough with their jobs.

Again, I was not arguing that this was not a concern. But if they were watching way too much TV, that would not have the same compelling hook in the story, because that is a more acceptable method of wasting your time to the older generations.

No doubt. It's a compelling hook because it's so dorky for a major league player to be distracted by a game that basically amounts to Farmville.
