****Official Houston Astros @ Kansas City Royals ALDS Game 1 Thread****

Game 1 SP: Collin McHugh vs Yordano Ventura

6:37pm cst @ Kauffman Stadium

TV: FSN1

It's finally game day, man what a long week. Time for the good guys in blue to put up or shut up. Put the Sept month behind them, eveything's led up to this point and anything less than a WS will be considered a disappointment. Personally I hope to eventually see a I-70 WS. GO ROYALS!!!

Is it your opinion that without Zobrist, the Royals would have lost the Central? Was it worth giving up pitchers on a pitching starved team?

In August, all of the guys I know said "Yes". I disagreed. I've yet to hear back from anyone tonight but I'll be curious about their responses.

I know that you justified both trades, which is fine. I was on the other side of the fence. No one will know for certain until next year and the coming years but IMO, the trades were fruitless from the beginning.

Now, the Royals still have an opportunity to prove me wrong (and I hope they do) but as of today, I think the organization will regret giving up five pitchers for two rentals that led them no where.

Could they have won the Central without Zobrist? Probably. But that move was never about winning the Central. It was about making the team stronger for the postseason.

He has played to or above expectations. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay in KC on a 3-4 year deal after the season is over, which would take some sting out of trading away pieces for him.

The Royals made both of those moves without trading the two top SP prospects in the organization's mind (I am a big Manaea believer, so I might disagree with those rankings).

Manaea is the only potential trouble spot out of those guys, IMO.

Finnegan is a short reliever who value took a big step back this year and who let his body get away from him at age 22. Lamb looks like a AAAA guy at this point, as he got shelled in Cincinnati after getting called up. Aaron Brooks is JaG. Cody Reed also has potential, but still is a long way away from the majors.

If this team doesn't make a deep postseason run, it will not be because Zobrist underperformed. It MIGHT be because Cueto didn't.

But still... Maligning the Zobrist trade is silly. If the Cueto trade had worked out as well as the Zobrist trade did, KC likely would have put up a 2-1 win tonight, with Cueto throwing 6-7 innings of shutout baseball.

Zobrist has been nothing but solid. If you were expecting a star then that might be where you are mistaken.

Cueto has been a dissapointment, but he has a chance to right that now. 6 years of being a great pitcher tells me it's not impossible.

We definately have an uphill battle now, but the knee jerk reactions around here are hilarious.

We hit a lot of balls hard right at people last night. Baseball is a really random game.

It's good to know that this kind of reerunation is not limited to fans on CP.

Part of that was the Astros' defensive positioning, which was uncanny.

If they've scouted us that well, that worries me.

The Astros are the one team I saw this season that played as shallow an outfield as the Royals. It's how they play. Just gotta hit the gaps.

It was more than OF depth. Their infield shifts were spot-on.

The Astros utilized the second-most shifts in the majors this year. It worked to perfection last night, neutralizing our BABIP-dependent offense.

It's just one game, and hopefully we can find holes the rest of the way. But I was both impressed and concerned last night.

Most of us have been Chiefs/Royals fans our entire lives, what do you expect?

I know its far from over but I have no faith that we'll get passed Houston, I cant help it. They just seem like the young, hungry up-and-comers this year like we were last year. I obviously hope Im wrong.

My graph shows they're all overdue to eat a dick.

To some extent, I can see some battered woman syndrome with as many Chiefs/Mizzou fans and 30 years of Royals suck... but, I don't know how anyone could watch the Royals for the past year and a half and continue to say "game over" every time they go down a run or three. I guess it's the cool thing to do though. At some point, like sometime last August or September after their umpteenth comeback victory or maybe that slightly crazy WC game or the rest of the playoffs/WS or the past 162 games as a whole....

I expect the speculum types to not be speculum types. This team, unlike the Chiefs, has actually delivered.

You know what's really odd? Most of the folks on this board have never felt the real heartbreak of a lost five game MLB playoff series.

If I can be positive after those debacles, I just can't understand how folks who have never had that experience can be so negative about it today.
