It may sound ridiculous, but as much as he may have pissed some of you off, this man does not deserve to be booed by the fans, even if he sits out every TC practice.
I agree.

Don't boo Berry.

Berry is my favorite Chief.

I knew he had a huge ego. I knew he would want top money.
But to ask for so much more than the current market setter..........I just dont get it.

Is there any precedent for a player doing this? I dont think anyone else would pay him that much either..

I could care less about him showing up for anything other than week 1.
I kind of hope he doesn't. The other guys need the 1st team reps.

I really hope EB can deflate his ego a little as he goes through the season or it will be his last in KC.

I would let him test the market next OS and see what his true value is.
If another team prices him out of our range then all the luck to him and his new team..

Honestly, I dont think he is currently worth what he thinks he is, but he is getting the same chance that Houston got, and Houston threw up 22 sacks.

I think this will be Berry's best season and its 80-20 he plays elsewhere in 2017.

I think it comes from the franchise tag number. With the changes to it and it not being the average of the top 5 players or whatever, it's inflated what he wants.

I think tagging him hurt their negotiating ability and it inflated his thinking. Should have let the market set it.

so not tag him and let him hit free agency to see what other teams think hes worth?

oh boy if that happened this forum would have melted down into a homeristic self destruct mode

Probably so.

But hindsight being 20 20, that was the only way to get his true value set.

I have come to suspect that this has been his plan from day one. He was drafted by KC but now that he has a chance to go where he wants instead he is working very hard to get out of KC. I don't even think it is about money. It is about him wanting to play in his backyard near his actual family.

Yeah it sure seems that way. If he wanted to be a Chief like guys like Charles, Hali, Maclin.... A deal probably would have been reached by now.

You can even look at Von Miller quotes during the contract negotiations with Denver. He said things like "I want to be a Bronco for life." I've heard nothing like that coming from Eric Berry.

He probably doesn't want to be here. He's either all about the money or wants to play for another team. I could be wrong but that's the sense I get from everything that has happened.

That's fine, I just don't want the Chiefs to overpay for him. He's a great player but not worth overpaying for.

If he isn't going to sign with us long-term, then we should trade him away. The problem is that nobody actually wants to pay a safety 11.8 for a year

Let him play the tag and have a good year, then let him walk. Get the 3rd rd comp, pay Poe and Fisher, then use some cash to get 1 good FA and some of Dorsey's baragain bin specialites.

After that you have 11 picks in the draft with great flexibility.

What moves do you think we will make in order to get the money to sign to accomplish the bolded?
As of now according to http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/kansas-city-chiefs/ we have $4.9M in cap space, which is probably close to the rookie cap allotment, without Poe or Berry, if he was to sign, with Fisher making $11.9M.

$40 million in 2018.

Fisher extended=lowered 2017 salary to create cap space.
With the cap rise it's probably fair to say we'll have $35+ million in the bank with Poe on the tag for 2018. Push their salary to 2018 with a small 2017 first year cap hit but bigger guaranteed $$. Exactly what we did with Maclin, Schwartz, etc

That is a part of it but I think we will see some other moves as well. If we sign Fisher to an extension it will create maybe enough for Poe but like not quite let alone a FA signing beyond our own.
