See - There's the myth about the University of Houston - Deal is A & M and UT have a mass alumni presence in Houston / SE TX already, so adding UH to the BIG 12 or SEC won't really be a plus because both conferences already have the Houston market share. Also, UT and A&M do NOT want UH anywhere near them for recruiting wars, because UH has proven in the past, when the playing field is level, they not only can compete with them, they can beat them on a regular basis. When UH was allowed to join the SWC, they had a rule that UH could not compete for the championship for several years. After the ban was lifted, they won it 3 out of the first 5 years and fared well against UT and A&M throughout the existence of the SWC. UT is making the possible recruitment of UH to the BIG 12 a political deal, where they are trying to tie it to them being allowed to open a campus in Houston...

For the record, as a UH alumni member, I'd like nothing more then to get a shot at either one of those schools on an annual basis again.
