In an attempt to really answer this question, I think it has a lot to do with the differences in entrepreneurial outlook between white millenials and middle eastern and Hispanic millenials. Culturally, white millenials are more traditional in their search for employment, going the standard W2 route, while Hispanics and middle eastern millenials may be more apt to take the self employment/gig economy approach. This offers the obvious freedom of working more flexible hours and not having to work FOR someone. Perhaps a minority may feel disenfranchised by traditional employment (warranted or not, I won't get into that here) and they feel like they wouldn't be able to get ahead as much as if they were working for themself.
I, for one, would hate that type of employment. Lack of stability and benefits scares me. But many of my friends of minority descent embrace it. Neither approach is exclusive to a race, obviously, but there are socioeconomic factors that may prompt a move towards one form of employment vs another. |
